In loving memory of

Lucia Pfotenhauer Templer
May 6, 1926 - November 13, 2020

Lucia Emma Helena Pfotenhauer Templer (Lucy), beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, passed peacefully to her heavenly home on Friday, Nov 13, 2020 in Austin, TX. Lucy was born to Rev. Martin and Hattie Pfotenhauer on May 6, 1926, and was baptized into the Christian faith in New Ulm, MN. She grew up in the Bridgeport area of Chicago, IL, and was confirmed at Holy Cross Lutheran Church on March 17, 1940. Lucy was fiercely proud of her Bridgeport roots and of being a PK (pastor's kid), coming from a long line of Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod pastors. With a passion for travel and adventure, Lucy accepted a position with ARAMCO in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia in 1955. It didn't take long for her to meet James M. Templer, and they were married later that year in The Hague, The Netherlands. So began their life of adventure together, which included a long career with Aramco, primarily in Arabia, but with assignments in Beirut, Lebanon and The Hague, The Netherlands. During their time in Arabia, Lucy and Jim were blessed with three children, Jim, Jan, and Sara. The friendships formed throughout their Aramco years were so cherished by them, and we continue to consider these friends as our family.

Lucy and Jim retired to the Onion Creek neighborhood of Austin, TX in 1982, where Lucy became a much-loved and active member of the community, affectionately known as the Queen of Onion Creek. Lucy was a long-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and adored her loving church family.

To know Lucy is to love her. Her love of the Lord showed in everything she did and to everyone she met. She never met a stranger, greeted everyone she saw, waved to every trucker on the freeway, and supported almost every cause that involved children or animals. Every day was an adventure for Lucy, whether it was a trip to Target or a trip abroad. She was never lost, she was just "taking the scenic route". She would help anyone in need - and there are many who will attest to that! Lucy lived her life as a joyful servant.

As her family, we know how incredibly blessed we are to have her as our mom, grandma, and aunt. She has nurtured us throughout our lives spiritually, emotionally, and physically, and has given us unlimited love, somewhat limited patience, and unwavering support. We love her beyond measure and will honor her all our remaining days.

Lucy is predeceased by her parents, her brothers Alexander and Martin, her husband Jim, and her son, James M. Templer, Jr. She is survived by her daughters Janice (Gary) Satterfield and Sara (Brown) Howard; daughter-niece Cindy Templer; grandchildren Timothy (Brittany) Satterfield, Kevin Satterfield, Kelly (Wesley) Johnston, Scott Satterfield, Tyler Howard, and Emma (Todd) Schulze; great-grandchild Molly Schulze and two great-grandbabies soon to be born; and many beloved nephews and nieces.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 am, Thursday, November 19 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 3501 Red River St., Austin, TX 78705. Masks are required and social distancing protocols will bein place.

Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 3501 Red River Street, Austin, TX 78705 or to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 3116 South Racine Avenue, Chicago, IL 60608.

"Dear Jan, Sara, and families, We first met Lucy at an AOC newcomers party in the basement of the Hotel des Indes shortly after we arrived in The Hague in September 1975. She was so welcoming that we immediately felt a part of the ARAMCO family. It was fun seeing her at various ARAMCO functions over the years, especially the holiday parties in Austin. She was a dear person, and I will miss her warm smile and engaging conversations. Seth Sharr PS: I remember looking forward to the annual ladies coffee she hosted in her home. She was a great role model, the epitome of graciousness and savoir-faire. Dianne Sharr"

"Please know of my deepest sympathy at this huge loss in your family life. When I think of your Mom, Grandma, Greatgrandma, Aunt, I remember those days in Saudi Arabia and I also remember the Stoltenburgs who your Mom was so faithful staying in friendship with. I also remember back in SA days when our families would bring things back from the US for each other. I am grateful that I got to see Lucy at the last Bratt Reunion I attended when it was in Houston TX. What a special treat to see her! Know of my thoughts and prayers as you grieve her loss and give her back to God. May her faith witness be your strength. God\'s blessings and peace be yours as you journey through your grief and also celebrate her presence in your life. Most Sincerely, Rosine Hermodson-Olsen, now from St. James MN and I only live about 30 miles from New Ulm MN!!! What a neat surprise to read that Lucy was born in New Ulm. :) "

"I have many fond memories of my beloved Aunt Lucy - a few: - Summer ~ 1965 Manitou Springs, CO - staying with Lucy, Uncle Jim, Jimbo, Jan, and baby Sara; game arcade; Royal Gorge, fun with our families. - early 1970?s - 2 trips to Beruit, interesting people (housekeeper Jabilee sp?, displaced Palestinians) and memorable places (the souks, Cedars of Lebanon, refugee camps). - Aug 1989 - Concordia, River Forest, IL - the Brauer (Helena Pfotenhauer) family reunion. Lucy was the lively MC for the weekend. She won the Beate look-alike contest, clearly when viewed in profile showing the prominent Pfotenhauer shnoz. I called Aunt Lucy, Beate ever since. - Oct 2011 - Chicago, Holy Cross 125th anniversary celebration. Lucy always made me and everyone around her feel welcomed and loved. She was fun, laughed often, enjoyed giving you ?the eye and the look? (which my family challenged each other to imitate), all while trying to act oh so proper - what a hoot! I will miss her greatly. I can see her now embracing and entertaining all of her loved ones in heaven. Rest In Peace, Beate. Much love, Jean, Malcolm, Sasha (Chris, Charlotte, Emmylou), and Alex"

"Lucy was one of a kind. She was a Mother or Grandmother to all. I enjoyed every moment spent with her and have some great memories of our after church lunches. One memory that always makes me laugh is thinking about the time Lucy told me her mimosa wasn\'t sweet enough so she dumped a sugar packet into it. I loved that Lucy! "

"Lucy was often in Houston and always with Jan and the kids in church. Our kids were also her kids, and we all called her Grandma. She was always dressed just so, with a contagious smile on her face. She loved chatting and always had witty remarks. She raised her children and grandchildren with love! We are blessed to have known her. "
