Gladys Marie (Yeoman) Mitchell started her life journey on December 8th 1930 at Renwick, Iowa Gladys was the second of four children of George and Olive (Palmer) Yeoman. She graduated from Corwith Consolidated High School in the Class of 1949. She attended LaJames Cosmetology College in Mason City, Iowa and graduated in 1950. She then became the owner of her own hair salon in Corwith.

On November 23, 1952 Gladys was united in marriage to Robert L. Mitchell, son of Lennie and Jennie (Merriam) Mitchell. They made their home on their farm south of Corwith. They were blessed with 4 children: Mike, Jean, David and Julie. Robert and Gladys celebrated their 55th Wedding Anniversary before Robert passed away on January 28th, 2008.

Gladys was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Royal Neighbors of America, Homemakers Club, Eastern Star and Birthday Club. She was the St. John's Lutheran Church Circle secretary for 20 years and a member of the church quilting group.
Gladys worked very hard with her hands throughout her life. She was in constant motion. As a wife, farming partner, and mother she helped in the fields, raised chickens, did carpenter work, gardened, canned, sewed, crocheted, knitted, quilted, baked and made wooden crafts to give away with the assistance of neighbor Elmer Krauss. Her garden was always a cornucopia of plenty for our family table. She made quilts and afghans to give away to her children, grandchildren and others. She loved lively card games with kids and grandchildren. Gladys enjoyed her family gatherings and traveled often to visit siblings. She and Robert enjoyed many fishing excursions and bus trips throughout the years. She worked in the Corwith Locker for several years trimming meat. In 1987 she received word she had a diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis. It became more difficult to use her hands but she persisted in doing the things she loved and remained on the farm. When Gladys was unable to safely remain on the farm, she moved to assisted living in Clarion, then Britt and finally to West View Care Center in August of 2017. She passed away from complications of Covid-19 on November 9, 2020 a few weeks short of her 90th birthday.

It is difficult to give a full account and measure of someone's life, of the love and devotion shown by a wife, a mother, a family member, a friend. Often, such things are best cherished in the memories and hearts of those she touched.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert Mitchell, her two sisters Pauline (Ben) Widen and Dorothy (Jim) Siebrands. She is survived by her brother Dale (Marcia) Yeoman of Algona, Iowa, children; Mike (Sherry) Mitchell, of Swisher Iowa, Jean (Mark) Hoyt, of Flower Mound, Texas, David Mitchell of Corwith, Iowa. Julie (Jim) Richter of Corwith. 9 Grandchildren; Laura (Travis) Sheely of Amana, Iowa, Len Mitchell of Swisher, Iowa, Jason (Lisa McDowell) Hoyt of Lewisville, Texas, Joshua (Tara) Hoyt of Orange, Texas, Nichole Yokimishyn of Algona, Iowa, Jaime (Ben) Smith of Clear Lake, Iowa, Matthew (Lany) Mitchell of Wesley, Iowa, Lynn (Jon) Morris of Eagle Grove, Iowa and Brian (Tracey) Richter of Wauconda, Illinois. "I always enjoyed Gladys\' wonderful sense of humor. The Skelley living room held a quilt frame for most of a winter and I can still hear Gladys, Pauline and Olive talking and laughing while they helped Mom with her quilt. A memory that Mom cherished, as well. I hope all your good memories will be a comfort now and in the days to come. Thinking of you... "
