Duane Delbert Fisher
March 5, 1925 - November 9, 2020

Duane Delbert Fisher, 95, of Pacific Junction, IA passed away on Monday, November 9, 2020 at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at the Martin Chapel Cemetery north of Pacific Junction, IA. Loess Hills Funeral and Cremation Center in Glenwood is caring for Duane and his family.

Duane Delbert Fisher born 5 March 1925 in a little white house on the corner of Mills Avenue and Washington in Pacific Junction, IA to Elsie and John (JR) Fisher. Duane attended Pacific Junction High School. He joined the United States Marine Corp at the age of 17 during World War II. He was stationed at Great Lakes Naval training center, Camp Lejeune, N.C., Camp Pendleton, CA, Marine Corps Depot San Diego, CA, and Pearl Harbor, HI.
Duane was in the 4th Marine Division and stood honor guard for President Franklin D. Roosevelt at Pearl Harbor. He guarded Japanese prisoners and kamikaze pilots at the Naval hospital and battleship row. He was in police action American occupation in Japan after surrender and was in the occupation of China.
After returning to the states he settled in Milwaukee, WI. and married Margaret J. Balistreri of a prominent Italian family and worked at Joseph Schlitz brewing company for 15 years. The couple was blessed with one son Duane A. Fisher in 1956.
In 1962 he moved back to Pacific Junction, IA and worked at the state school in Glenwood and then 18 years for Burlington Northern Railroad and also farmed the family farm.
Duane was a den father in the Boy Scouts. He belonged to DAV, VFW, American Legion and was a life member of them all. He was a golden Eagle of FOE.
Duane enjoyed hunting, fishing, and hunting mushrooms.
Duane's pride and joy was his one and only grandchild Cheyenne Fisher.
Duane is survived by his son, Duane A. Fisher of Pacific Junction, IA; granddaughter, Cheyenne Fisher of Ames, IA; daughter-in-law, Un Mi Fisher of Council Bluffs, IA; cousin, Sheryl Moore of Council Bluffs, IA; sisters, Loretta Monroe of Florida and Beulah Ross of Sidney, IA; other relatives and a host of friends.
Duane passed away from Covid-19 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital on 9 November 2020 at the age of 95.
