In loving memory of

MARGARET ROSE TREMBATH
September 1, 1929 - October 27, 2020

Margaret Rose Trembath age 91 passed away on October 27, 2020 in Bloomington, Minnesota where she had moved, a little over a year earlier, to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren in the area so they could assist with her care.

She is preceded in death by her husband Pershing Lloyd Trembath, her daughter Andrea Kay Trembath, her parents Vincent and Honora Mahalak and three brothers, Vincent, Raymond and Gene Mahalak.

Margaret was born on September 1, 1929 in Lincoln, Michigan as the eldest of eight children to Vincent and Honora Mahalak. Growing up at the end of the Great Depression, her childhood brought on extended parenting duties in the form of helping to care for her siblings. Times were difficult and she learned how to make a little go a long way. She was grateful for what she had and sacrificed her own needs for those of her family.

She met her husband Pershing while he was working as a Conservation Officer in the area near her home. They dated briefly before Pershing had to return to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where he lived. Margaret was sure that she would never see Pershing again. One month later, however, there was a knock on her door and there he stood. He confessed that as hard as he tried, he just could not get Margaret out of his mind and conveyed his deep love for her. They were married soon after on July 8, 1950 in a garden ceremony at her Aunt's home. Following a camping honeymoon trip to California, Margaret and Pershing settled in the Upper Peninsula where they raised their four children: Andrea, Robin, Mark and Kathleen.

Margaret devoted her life to her family. They initially lived in Negaunee, Baraga and then East Lansing (while Pershing earned his Master's Degree from Michigan State University) they ultimately settled down and made a home in Marquette where they raised their four children. She and Pershing built a camp on Casey Lake in Humboldt Township, where they spent as much time as they could enjoying the outdoors. Their camp became the beloved cornerstone for the family and was shared with both extended family and friends as well as being a place of solace for the two of them.

Margaret loved gardening and could always be found in her yard digging, pulling weeds and planting. Her favorite flowers were roses and she always had a splendid display of colors and blooms. Little did her parents know at the time that giving her the middle name of Rose would be so appropriate. Anyone that was fortunate enough to enjoy her beautiful gardens was lucky to have seen such a grand display. She loved to share her beautiful flowers with friends and family by gifting bouquets of flowers to them. In addition to gardening, Margaret loved to sew, knit, cross stitch and needlepoint. The remnants of her work remain in the family today for generations to enjoy.

She lived most of her life in the home that she and Pershing had made in Marquette. She lost the love of her life in December of 1993 after 43 years of marriage. Her first born daughter Andrea (Andy) died in June of 2018 at the age of 66 following an extended illness. Margaret is survived by her two sons, Robin Dale Trembath (Linda Trembath), Mark Wayne Trembath (Marla Trembath) and her youngest child Kathleen Marie Trembath Spellmire (James Spellmire). She has eight grandchildren that she loved very much. Erica Trembath, Angelique Peterson, Janis Pennell, Leslie Olver, Evan Horton, Brian Horton, Jeffrey Spellmire and Olivia Spellmire. She was fortunate to seen four great grandchildren as well, Alex Pennell, Macy Pennell, Emma Peterson and Marlie Olver as well as two step great grandchildren Heather and Tara Peterson. Margaret is survived by two brothers, Louis and David as well as two sisters, Suzanne and Connie.

A memorial service will be held in the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home on Friday, August 6th beginning at 10 a.m. with a luncheon to follow in the funeral home at 12 noon. Burial will take place in the Negaunee Cemetery.
