Lonie Derry, 87, of Tabor, IA passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at the Tabor Manor in Tabor, IA. No services are scheduled at this time. Loess Hills Funeral and Cremation Center in Glenwood is caring for Lonie and her family.


Lonie Ann (Richmond) Kidwell Derry, 87 of Tabor, IA, passed away October 24, 2020 at the Tabor Manor Care Center.

Lonie was born on March 20, 1933 in Sugartree, West Virginia, the daughter of Henery and Freeda (Brown) Richmond. She grew up and attended school in West Virginia. Throughout her life Lonie worked in retail, waitressing, and as an aide at Glen Haven in Glenwood, IA.

Lonie was previously married to Robert Kidwell. They divorced in 1959. She married Floyd Derry on February 26, 1963 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Lonie enjoyed a lifetime of crocheting using fine crochet thread of various colors. Among her many projects included crocheting red hats for the Red Hat Ladies Society. She displayed a doily in a frame that Floyd made for her which won a blue ribbon at the Mills County Fair. Lonie attended numerous craft fairs, from here to New Mexico, displaying and selling her work. In her later years, she made crocheted angels which were attached to clothes pins. Her daughter Barb made babygans (baby afghans) and would include an angel clothespin with a purchase.

Lonie was preceded in death by her parents; husband Floyd in 2020; siblings, Lester Richmond and wife Lois, Otis Richmond in infancy, Mabel Machniak and husband Stanley, and Ruby Hager and husband Jefero; brother-in-law, Herb Thompson; sister-in-law Sue Richmond; and former husband Robert in 2003.

Lonie is survived by her children, Barbara Kleinfelter of Kearney, MO, Mary Hendrix Stegall of Glenwood; step children, Bruce (Riza) Derry, and Cheryl Derry, all of Fulton, MO; nine grandchildren, David Hendrix, Lisa Diane Bright, Michelle Denise Sodora, Johnathon Neil Fossum, Mindy Jaxson, Herbert Derry, Timothy Hays, Erickson Derry, and Angelina Derry; 11 great grandchildren; siblings, Helene Thompson of New Mexico, Lillian (Dallas) Clay of Alkol, WV, Estil Richmond of Glenwood, Larry Richmond of Newcomers, OH, Sharon (Gail) Griffith of Yawkey, WV, and Dexter Richmond of Danville, WV and all their families; and many friends.

"When I was little I would spend weekends at Ann and Floyd?s house in I believe Glen Ellen Illinois. I loved going there. She always had doilies on her tables that I would move around. Such simpler times. "
