Norma Jean, daughter of James R. and Johanna M. (Peterson) Wilson, was born April 23, 1927, at Chariton, IA. She graduated from Chariton High School. On July 19, 1945, Norma was united in marriage with John Paul Jones and two sons were born to this union.
Following her marriage, Norma worked as a secretary for the Farm Service Administration and at Alco Photo in Des Moines. Moving to Manilla in 1949, Norma worked at the local telephone office until her retirement in 1991. Norma volunteered for her church in Denison, Community of Christ (formerly the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints), teaching Sunday school, playing the piano at services, sending out birthday cards, and visiting the elderly. She was also a member of the local chapter of the Federated Women’s Club.
Norma continued to live in Manilla following the death of her husband in 1984. On Christmas Eve, December 24, 2018, she died peacefully at home at the age of 91 years, 8 months and 1 day.
Norma is preceded in death by her parents, husband John Paul Jones and son Jon Alan Jones in 1990.
She is survived by her son, Curtis Craig Jones and wife, Audrey Claire (nee Famular), of Johnston, IA; brother, Robert Wilson of Independence, MO; step-brother, Dick Young and wife Lucille of Chariton; and granddaughter, Alina Jones. Norma proudly attended Alina’s dance recitals, soccer games, Christmas pageants, ice skating rehearsals/competitions and birthday parties. She will be dearly missed.
