Judy Boersma

Judy Lynn, daughter of Dale and Dorothy (Hoopes) Peck, was born December 7, 1941, at Denver, Colorado. She spent her childhood years in Kansas, graduating from high school in Russell, Kansas. Judy then attended Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa, where she earned her bachelors degree in education.

While at Westmar, Judy met Douglas Duane Boersma, and on November 25, 1961, they were united in marriage at Russell, Kansas. They were both teachers at Greenville-Rossie schools for two years before moving to Manning in 1964. Judy took a position as a second-grade teacher in the Manning school before deciding to stay home with their three children.  In later years, Judy was a substitute teacher in Manning.  She also helped Duane as an office assistant in his insurance business until his retirement in February of 2004.  Duane died suddenly and unexpectedly in September of that same year.

Judy was a member of the Faith Evangelical Free Church in Audubon, serving in several different areas. She enjoyed attending church and various Bible study groups.  For much of her life, Judy devoted herself to her husband and children: Kevin, Molly and Nathan.  In the past ten years, she delighted in spoiling her three grandchildren during their annual summer visits to her house.  Judy surrounded herself with great friends and family who will all miss her deeply.

On Wednesday, March 21, 2007, Judy died from injuries sustained in a car accident south of Manning. She was 65 years, 3 months and 14 days of age.

Judy was preceded in death by her husband Duane.

She is survived by three children: Kevin Boersma and Tammy Otto of Manning; Molly and husband Duane Wilson of Eagle Grove; Nathan Boersma and wife Lee Ann of Lyndhurst, NJ; parents Dale and Dorothy Peck of Salina, KS; granddaughters: Heather, Amy and Sarah Wilson of Eagle Grove; sister-in-law Marlys and husband Edward Ross of Seattle, WA; many other relatives and friends.

"Kevin, Molly, Nathan, and families, I'm so sorry to learn of your loss. I knew your Mom through your grandparents when I was growing up in Clear Lake. She was always so kind and interested. Your Mom always seemed very classy and regal to me. She engaged in conversation with me, always making me feel important as she asked what was going on in my life. We liked it when your parents came to visit. My sister, Melissa and I loved it when Kevin and Molly came to visit Lube and Violet because then we got to play with you! Your parents were very gracious hosts one time when we came to Manning and spent a night in your home probably around 1975 or 1976. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers at this time. Sincerely, Marcea King"
