Rita Healy, daughter of William and Theresa (McNertney) Gallagher, was born October 2, 1913 in Vail, Iowa. Rita was the eldest of nine children. She graduated from St. Anns Catholic School in Vail in 1931. When she was eighteen, she taught in a country school and later worked for the Post Office.
On August 16, 1939 Rita was united in marriage with Frank Healy of Manilla, Iowa. They continued farming and were parents to eleven children. In 1953, they moved to Schaller, Iowa where they made many lifelong friends. 1964 took them to Blythe, California. Rita was a homemaker, active in their parish and volunteered in the community. In her free time she enjoyed her favorite sports teams: the Irish, the Hawkeyes, the Lakers, the Cubs and the Dodgers. In their later years, Frank and Rita spent time traveling and visiting their children and their families. In 1999 they moved to Glendale, California to be closer to family. Rita died peacefully in her sleep on May 14, 2008 at the age of 94 years.
Rita was preceded in death by her husband of sixty six years, Frank Healy; two sisters: Nelda McSorley and Jean Bandow; three brothers: Lloyd, Merle and Leo Gallagher; two sons-in-law: Tom Kennedy and Al Roman.
