    Richard Carl, son of Carl M. and Florence (Hill) Pugh, was born November 29, 1920 at Des Moines, Iowa. He attended Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, graduating in 1939.  Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Pacific Theater from 1942 to 1946. While in the Army he was united in marriage with Barbra Wise. After his honorable discharge he returned to Des Moines where he worked in real estate.
   
Richard was later united in marriage with Virginia Schultes-Cunningham and the couple resided in California during their retirement. Richard was an active member of the St. Charles Catholic Church in Burbank and the American Legion Hollywood Post 42 and in his spare time enjoyed listening to big band music and playing golf.

   
Richard died October 14, 2008 at Providence St Josephs Hospital in Burbank, California at the age of 87 years 10 months and 15 days. Richard was a man of honor and dignity whose genuine spirit will be missed by all those who loved him.

   
He was preceded in death by his parents Carl Pugh and Florence Pugh Hopkins; wife Virginia Pugh; daughter Sheri Holcomb; and brother Robert Pugh.

  
Richard is survived by his brother Ray Pugh and his wife Doris of Des Moines Iowa; grandchildren: Eric Birge, Chris Birge, Andrew Birge, and Amy Birge all of Dallas/Houston Texas; step-mother Helen Pugh of Glendale California; step children Lloyd Cunningham, Mike Cunningham, Edward H. Cunningham, John Cunningham, Beverly Howe and Kelly Montrose; nephew Robert Garver and niece Linda Pugh; as well as the friends who surrounded him in his community.
