Raymond Sapp
March 7, 1936 - February 13, 2009

    Raymond Edward Sapp, son of Jelste Joseph (Barney) and Marie (Feld) Sapp, was born March 7, 1936, at Carroll, IA. He attended St. Josephs Grade School and then Carroll High School. Shortly before his graduation, Ray enlisted in the United States Army in 1954. He served in Korea during the Korean Conflict and after his honorable discharge in 1956 he returned to Carroll. Ray served in the reserves in the Iowa National Guard until 1962.

   On December 29, 1956, Ray was united in marriage with Doris Schachtner at Sts. Peter & Pauls Church in Carroll. Five children were born to this union. Ray worked construction doing masonry work before joining his fathers trash collection business. In 1962, Ray and Doris purchased the business and operated it as Rays Refuse Service. His son Tim joined his father in business in 1983. Ray retired in 2005.

   Ray was a member of St. Lawrence Parish in Carroll. He coached Little League baseball for over twenty years, winning the State Championship with his team in 1982. Ray enjoyed hunting, fishing, his family and the companionship of his dog Sega.

   Shortly after Doris death on February 1, 2004, Ray was diagnosed with Alzheimers. Due to the loving care of his family, especially his daughter Tammy, granddaughter Shephanie and care giver Christy McMichael, Ray was able to remain in his home until his death there on Friday, February 13, 2009, at the age of 72 years, 11months and 6 days.

   Preceding Ray in death are his parents; wife Doris; brother Richard Sapp and wife Judy and sister Ruth Olberding.

   He is survived by his five children: Kathy and husband Jeff Schulte of Carroll; Tammy Sapp and friend Curt Rickers of Carroll; Tim Sapp and wife Joann of Carroll; Jeff Sapp and wife Ramona of Bonner Springs, KS and Wendy Sapp of Carroll; 19 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; siblings Robert Sapp and wife Dorothy of Carroll; Janet Parent of Orland Park, IL; Mary and husband Glenn Steimer of Omaha; Judy and husband Paul Testroet of Carroll and Linda and husband Jerry Schafer of Fort Dodge; brother-in-law Merle Olberding of Carroll; two sisters-in-law Sue Sapp Parnell of North St. Paul, MN and Delores and husband Vincent Schieffer of Creston, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
