William Lucas "Billy" Smith Jr., son of William Lucas Smith Sr. and Linda (Acker) Smith, was born November 9, 1982 at Pomona, California. The family moved to Greenfield, Iowa when Billy was a couple of months old. He attended school there and in Coon Rapids after the family moved there in 1994. Billy joined the National Guard and completed basic training following his junior year in high school. Following high school, he worked in information technology for Precision of Iowa in Coon Rapids and Sitel in Carroll. Through the years he also worked for Venteicher Electric, Dan Royer's power washing business, Walmart in the cell phone department and Farmland in Denison. Billy was united in marriage with his high school sweetheart, Kim Boettcher, on October 9, 2006. Two boys were born to this union - Lucas in 2006 and Austin in 2008. Billy was an X-Box gaming fanatic. He loved to mess around on his electric guitar and on the computer, and also enjoyed bowling. As a result of injuries suffered during an altercation at his home in Coon Rapids, Billy died at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, IA, on Sunday, September 4, 2011. He was 28 years, 9 months and 26 days of age. Billy was preceded in death by his father in 1991; sister in infancy Rebecca Lee Bonsky; and grandparents William Francis Smith and Joan Ada (Baker) Smith. He is survived by his mother Linda Smith (Bill Carrick) of Coon Rapids; sons Lucas Smith-Boettcher and Austin Smith and their mother Kim Boettcher, all of Coon Rapids; siblings: Debbie Reineke (Kevin) of Coon Rapids; Joshua Smith of Manning; Brandon Coleman of Coon Rapids; Bryan Snell of Coon Rapids; April Snell of Guthrie Center; grandparents Vere and Barbara Acker of Greenfield; many other relatives and friends.
