Mildred Anna, daughter of Hans and Florence (Sornson) Hansen, was born June 16, 1917 on her parents' farm in Audubon County, Iowa. After completing rural school in Audubon County she began caring and housekeeping for many families, as far away as California. On April 14, 1940 Mildred was united in marriage with Milo Chris Andersen at Bethany Lutheran Church near Kimballton where she had been baptized and confirmed. Two children were born to this union. They lived and farmed in an area called Rorbeck. After many years on the farm they moved into Elk Horn. After the death of her husband in 1996 she moved to an apartment in Elk Horn. Mildred was a faithful member of Elk Horn Lutheran Church. She was a community volunteer, enjoyed handiwork and always had beautiful flowers. In times of need, her church and community could always count on Mildred for prayers, love and support. When she could no longer live alone, Mildred moved to the Salem Lutheran Home in 2009 and formed many close relationships with her caregivers and residents there. She died there early Thursday, September 6, 2012 at the age of 95 years, 2 months and 21 days. Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Milo Andersen and sister in law Marge Hansen. Survivors include her two children Wayne Andersen (Judy) of Estes Park, CO and Janet Johnson (Douglas) of Des Moines; four grandchildren: Holly Carr (Tom), Ryan Johnson (Kelli), Chris Andersen (K.C.) and Jennifer Oligmueller (Virgil); nine great grandchildren; brother Dallas Hansen of Elk Horn; sister Reta Larsen (Allan) of Elk Horn; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends. "I am sorry to learn of your family sorrow. The death of a loved one is painful. If I may, I'd like to share scripture found in your Bible that may comfort you in some way. John 6:40 reads...For this is the will of my Father, that everyone that beholds the Son and exercises faith in him should have everlasting life, and I will resurrect him in the last day. You see, according to this promise, we have hope."

"Dear Reta, Alan, Becky, Carol, Jane & Families - Thinking of you in friendship and in sympathy. Mildred ALWAYS knew me, knew my name, never confused me with Ann, no matter how long it had been since I'd last seen her. What an amazing mind. What an amazing spirit of sweetness and love dwelling within this woman of God. I think fondly of all of you and always will. With love, Sue"

"Dear Janet Wayne and families. We were out of town or I would have attended the service. Mildred was a lovely lady and memories go back to Rorbeck Ramblers 4-H days. She was such a good friend to Mom and our family. You were truly blessed to have such a special loving caring Mother. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Dick & Sharon Nelson"

"Mildred was a "special" person in our lives that we were priveleged to know. Such a loving, faithful lady who was loved and respected by all who knew her. We are sad that we no longer will see her, but happy to know that she is now well again and in her heavenly home. Our thoughts and prayers reach out to her family. God Bless."
