"Scott and family, I'm sorry to hear about Lois' passing. My thoughts are with all of you."
Lois Dorinne, daughter of Ed and Ellen (Axford) Erps, was born January 18, 1922 at Arcadia, Iowa. She graduated from Arcadia High School in 1939 and then attended Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls. She then taught school for a number of years. On June 1, 1941 Lois was united in marriage with Willus Hill. They lived on a number of farms in the Manning area and raised their four sons. In 1962 Lois started working as a lab technician at the Manning General Hospital. She retired after many years at that job. Her husband died unexpectedly in 1986. Lois continued to live in their home. Lois was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Manning and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She thoroughly enjoyed watching the QVC channel on TV and listen to books on tape when her eyesight started to fail. She was a dedicated Chicago Cubs fan and Iowa Hawkeye sports fan. Lois was a loving and warm mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister who truly cared about everyone she met. She always saw the best in everyone and will be greatly missed. Lois was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1989 and was given a short time to live. However, through the power of prayer she made it another 24 years. Lois lived in a retirement apartment in Carroll when she could no longer live at home and then entered St. Anthony Nursing Home in April of 2011. She died there late Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at the age of 91 years and 4 days. Preceding Lois in death are her parents and husband. She is survived by her four children: Gerald Hill and wife Bonnie of Deloit; Richard Hill of Honolulu, HI; Charlie Hill and wife Pat of Carroll and Scott Hill of Ogden; six grandchildren Tony Hill, Brian Hill, Jason Hill, Rob Jensen, Ryan Jensen and Ashley Cockrum; 10 great grandchildren; two brothers Dr. Bill Erps and wife Katherine of Carroll and Bob Erps and wife Wanda of Arcadia; two sisters Elaine and husband Calvin Berge of Carson City, NV and Ruth and husband Jim Buddenhagen of Humboldt; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
