Roger Alan, son of Roy and Ruby (Bidlack) Heiman, was born November 6, 1948 in Manilla, Iowa. Roger lived with his family in rural Crawford County, Iowa, and attended East Boyer Rural School through the fourth grade. He then attended Manilla Schools where he participated in Future Farmers of America. Roger graduated with the Manilla High School Class of 1967. That same year, he was united in marriage with Janice Pfannkuch at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.
Following graduation, Roger worked at Iowa Beef Packing for a couple of years and then at Farmland for 22 years. In 1976 they moved to the family farm near Manilla where they enjoyed farming and raising their five children. In 1992 Roger retired from Farmland, moved to Irwin and started driving truck.
Roger was a lifetime, devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla where he taught Sunday School for several years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, watching old Westerns and visiting with friends and neighbors. Spending time with his family ranked at the top of Roger’s favorite activities, followed closely by putting a smile on others faces.
Roger retired from driving truck in 2014 and continued to live in Irwin. Several months after being diagnosed with prostate cancer he was hospitalized for a short time with complications. He then spent about a week on hospice care at the home of his daughter Melissa before his death there on November 6, 2016 at the age of 68 years, joining his loved ones in heaven on his birthday.
Preceding Roger in death are his parents; son Shawn Heiman; brother Dudley Heiman and sister Delores Zeman.
He is survived by four children Cory Heiman of New Orleans, LA, Melissa (Christopher) Wiederin of Manilla, Tonya (Scott) Fratella of Ankeny and Heather Heiman of Manning; 12 grandchildren: Alexa, Taylor, Caylin, Eddie, Jared, Justin, Luca, Ewan, Pieper, Hugo, Sean and Tristan; sister Lois (Larry) Schwartz of Manilla; sister in law Mary Heiman of Omaha; brother in law David Zeman of Manilla, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
