"I love the pictures thank you. Every time I saw Mia... Without fail she had a beautiful calming smile to give. My heart goes out to all of you ....Mias sweet family and friends that love and cared for her completely. Peace & Love, Deb Darnell"
Mia Christine Miller was born June 29, 1987 in Austin, Texas at St. David's Hospital. She passed away on October 24, 2020 at Seton Hospital in Austin, Texas. Mia was 33 years old. She is survived by her father, Michael Miller of Austin, Texas, her mother, Nancy Roll of Alpine, Texas, her sisters Megan Miller of Midland, Texas and Emily Roll of Houston, Texas, and her brother Frank Roll of Pflugerville, Texas. She is also survived by her maternal grandparents, Tom and Bette Gustavson of Smithville, Texas, paternal grandmother Mary Miller of Kyle, Texas and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and one niece.
Mia lived most of her life in Austin and Bastrop where she attended Brentwood, Cedar Creek and Hill Street Elementary Schools and Bastrop Middle School. In 2005 she graduated from Bastrop High School. Mia attended Austin Community College and then transferred to Texas State University where she earned a bachelor's degree from the McCoy School of Business in 2009. At Texas State she was active in SIFE and TKE. As a student in Bastrop, she participated in 4-H showing rabbits and was on the Bastrop Bears Varsity tennis team. She applied her business skills in her early employment at Colovista Country Club and in college at Abercrombie and VF in San Marcos. In 2012 she joined the Governor's Office as a Grant Compliance Specialist. As a child she had loved taking things apart and putting them together. This later evolved to a hobby centered in crafts and creating new ways to reuse discarded items.
Sadly, Mia was diagnosed with LDBC Lymphoma in April of 2011 and twice experienced recurrences of cancer shortly after each course of treatment. The cancer treatments were harsh to her body and the side effects of the various drugs left her with heart and kidney failure and aHUS. Regardless of the obstacles, Mia remained ever hopeful and participated fully in life. One of her favorite quotes was No Matter How Rough the Sea, I Refuse to Sink.
We will celebrate her life in June of 2021 and we ask that you consider making a memorial contribution to MD Anderson at this website: https://www.mdanderson.org/donors-volunteers/donate/honor-loved-ones.html

"i remember when Mia baby sat me. She spun me around and around making laugh. She was always so strong."
"As a small child I took Mia and Her sister Megan down to Barton creek on the green belt. Mia stood very still in the water and caught minnows in her hands. I knew then how determined Mia could be. She insisted that I take the minnows home and put them in my fish tank."
"Mia was a fighter through and through. Her love, courage, and spirit will be missed. Linda Seale"
