Reverend R. Stephen "Steve" Rice, 67, of Sioux City, Ia went home to be with the Lord, October 24, 2020 due to complications from Covid-19.
A celebration of life will be held Friday, October 30, 2020 at 7:00pm at Southern Hills Baptist Church, Sioux City, Ia.
Steve was born July 17, 1953 in Scottsbluff, NE to Richard Keith and Barbara Gene (Johnston) Rice. The family moved to Colorado Springs, CO in 1957, where his parents and sisters have resided (except for a brief time in Denver) since.
Steve was a Cub Scout, then a Boy Scout, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. He was also a member of the Order of the Arrow and earned the God and Country Award in 1968.
Steve attended Washington Irving Junior High, and General William Mitchell High School, in Colorado Springs, where he graduated in 1971. After that he attended the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs, where he graduated in June, 1976 with a B.A. in Psychology and Political Science. Steve went on to attend Brite Divinity School, at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX, where he graduated with a Masters of Divinity in Theology in August 1979.
Steve was saved in 1964 and was called to the Christian ministry in 1969. He was ordained into the Christian ministry on July 15, 1979. He served in the following churches: First Christian Church of Princeton, MO; First Christian Church of Sloan, IA; Sixth Street Christian Church of Middletown, IN; First Christian Church of Wray, CO; First Christian Church of Ames, OK; First Christian Church of Cleghorne, IA; First Baptist Church of Ida Grove, IA; and Pioneer Baptist Church of Denison, IA. He was also a member of Southern Hills Baptist Church since moving back to the Sioux City area in 1990.
Steve worked at various companies around the area including MCI in Sgt Bluff, Gateway, Target, Best Buy and Alorica. Steve most recently worked at Allied Solutions in Dakota Dunes until he retired in 2018.
In April 1982, he married Pamela Ann Miller, and became the father of her daughter Stephanie Ann. They had two children, a daughter, Mikkela Elizabeth and a son, Zackory Stephen.
Steve was an avid Denver Broncos fan. He enjoyed cooking (he made some fantastic mashed potatoes), reading, working on computers, spending time with his kids and grandkids and being with his church family and most recently being the cook for the other residents that live in his apartment building.
Steve is survived by his daughter Stephanie, her husband Travis Tyer and their five children Kylee, Bryan, Kenzi, Blake and Trey; his great granddaughter Alena; his daughter Mikkela and son Zackory; his parents Keith and Barbara Rice; his oldest sister Susan and her husband Dale McCloughan; and youngest sister Sally and her husband Danny Moses. As well as numerous nieces and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Flowers are welcome and contributions can be sent to Southern Hills Baptist Church in memory of Steve.
