In loving memory of

Thomas Dean Hansen
March 24, 1946 - September 26, 2020

A grasshopper walks into a bar. Bartender says why the long face?

Thomas Dean Hansen. The man. The myth. The legend. On September 26, 2020 Tom made a cool change and joined the math geniuses that came before him pursuing Einstein's Theory of Special Relativity. In his quest to discover what happens when you travel at the speed of light in a straight line, he wanted you all to know he just might be able to steal time and meet us back here at this exact same point where he left us. Until then, Godspeed ...

A small-town boy from Plattsmouth, NE, Tom was born on March 24, 1946 and has been raising hell for more than 7 decades since. Raised by Albert and Deloris Hansen on the family "farm" where he learned hard work and how to grab the bull by the horn... literally. Tom was an all-around athlete and his competitive nature ultimately took him places beyond the farm. Tom propelled himself into actuarial studies and Sigma Chi and graduated from the University of Nebraska. Go Big Red.

Tom's brilliant mind and discipline resulted in passing all 10 actuarial exams by the time he was 30. His designation of FSPA afforded him elite status in his profession, and was even invited to sit on the Actuarial Exam Writing Committee. He was a mathematical mastermind who built his business from the ground up, and the software to-boot. Not just once. But twice and then some.

Outside of his career Tom took his work hard play hard attitude into the weekend; Playing alongside his tennis buddies on Saturday and carrying on the laughs to Sunday Funday. He was famous amongst family and friends for his brunch on the griddle, family toasts, very large pours of grey goose martinis and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs. Game nights were another favorite as he loved a good game of Yahtzee and shut the box with those he loves and who love him most. When he wasn't cheering on the Chiefs and rolling the dice he was reflecting on happy memories of setting sail in California. It brings comfort knowing his soul and spirit are sailing into the mystic. He is a man of few words, great wit, big love, and hearty laughter.

Those who remain in support of his quest are his son, Scott Hansen and his wife Nikki; His daughters, Heather Hansen and her significant other David, Ali Jacobs and her husband Ryan; His brother, Allan Hansen and Sister, Susie Hansen, his three grandchildren Dean, Kal and Rylie, His grand dog Bruno, and his very own Bella and Mike who rest beside his white K Swiss tennis shoes.

A Celebration of Life for Tom Hansen will be held on October 24, 2020. Unfortunately, due to Covid the celebration is limited to immediate family. We hope in the near future we can have a celebration including all friends and family that we know Tom would want to celebrate his life. In the meantime on the 24th of October at sunset, please raise a glass and remember all of the great times, funny stories, and memories we have with the one and only Tommy!

Cheers!
