A memorial service for LaVerl "Red" Follman, 88, of Titonka, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at United Methodist Church, Titonka. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at United Methodist Church, Titonka. A private family graveside service will be held in Buffalo Township Cemetery. Social distancing practices will be followed and masks are required. The memorial service will be live streamed on Oakcrest Funeral Services' Facebook Page. In lieu of flowers memorials can be directed to MercyOne North Iowa Hospice or the United Methodist Church, Titonka.
LaVerl "Red" Follman was born September 15, 1932, Guttenberg, Iowa to Fredrick and Hilda (Winch) Follman. He attended Guttenberg school system through 8th grade then helped his uncle farm until he was drafted into the United State Army on November 6, 1952. He served in the Korean War and was honorable discharged on February 11, 1956. While overseas he became pen pals with Caralee Rippentrop. They were united in marriage on June 12, 1955. To this union they had six children.
LaVerl worked for a farmer near Estherville, IA for a few years, before moving to Titonka where he started two business. He then went on to work at Winnebago where he worked until his retirement. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Rurup on March 4, 1977.
LaVerl loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed having coffee with his buddies, playing rummikub, and cutting trees.
LaVerl died Wednesday, October 21, 2020, in Forest City. He was 88.
He is survived by his daughters, Saralee (Denny Shropshire) Vulich of Thompson, IA, Jeanine (Michael) O'Rourke of Forest City, IA, Thalia (Joel) Clement of Clinton, IA; step-children, David (Martha) Rurup of Troy, TX, Daniel Rurup of Gowrie, IA, and Gerald (Avon) Rurup of Titonka, IA; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and step-great-great-grandchildren; sister, Beverly Herman, friend, Florence Heyer and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his children, Fredrick, Vanessa, and Valerie; parents, brother, Ronald, and wife, Marjorie.
