In loving memory of

Lamont S. Freeman
February 21, 1957 - October 14, 2020

Lamont Scott Freeman, Sr. was born on February 21, 1957, in Sacramento, California. He was the third child of Patricia Dennings. He had two older siblings , Wendy and Dana, and his younger sister, Denise.
Lamont grew up in Sacramento and attended Donner Elementary School, Peter Lassen Jr High and graduated from McClatchy High School in 1975. Lamont joined the Navy in 1977 at the age of 20. Upon completing boot camp, he had the pleasure of traveling to several places around the world, from Tokyo, to the Philippines, and then finally to San Diego, where he made his permanent home. While still stationed in San Diego, he met his wife, Donna. They raised a daughter Andrea and son Lamont Freeman Jr "Monte" as well as several nieces and nephews.
After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he continued his career at the US Postal Service where he retired in 2007. That same year, he began his handyman business, Double D's (in honor of his late brother, Dana Dennings). Lamont had an incredible talent for building and repairing just about anything making Double D's a very successful business until his final retirement.
In his early years, Lamont was trained in Tang Soo Do, becoming an accomplished black belt, winning and defeating many opponents in karate tournaments. He was well known amongst his karate peers for his quick and strong legs. Lamont defeated many of his opponents by using his high, low & ultra precise spin kicks.
Everyone who knew Lamont knew he had a passion and extreme love for fishing which began when he was a little boy. He obtained his goal of owning two boats where he spent a lot of his time. He also taught his grandsons, Cairo and Chance how to fish and has created a new found passion for each of them. Before his passing, he even taught Cairo how to drive the boat to ensure his passion of fishing continued for his family. He spent countless hours fishing with family, friends, and fellow fishermen. He was a member of the Road Rangers Bass Club and simply loved to be on the water casting his line out. Upon retirement he often said all he wanted to do was fish.
Lamont was also well known for the lessons he taught everyone. From the simplest of lessons to the deepest of them. He loved to share his knowledge and wisdom and we know he is going to be looking down on us to ensure we have remembered what he taught us. The time and love he poured into others was invaluable and will be treasured and never forgotten. If he called you a friend; you were lucky enough to also be family to him. If you were family; you were lucky enough to call him your Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, or Tata.
Lamont Scott Freeman Sr. was called home on Wednesday, October 14. 2020, in San Diego, California. His loving family was by his side as they said goodbye to their Life Partner, Mentor, Sensei, Coach, and Fearless Leader.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Dennings and brother, Dana Dennings. Left to cherish his memory are; His wife, Donna Freeman, daughter, Andrea Michelle Kyle, son, Lamont Scott Freeman Jr (Brenda), Grandchildren, Cairo, Alana & Chance, sisters, Wendy Walker (Melvin), Denise Hampton, Mother-in-law Lorraine Sablan, Brothers-in-law Louie, Joe (Kathy), Ken & James, Sisters-in-law Clarise & Isabelle and countless nieces and mighty nephews; as well as a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

"I lost touch with Lamont when I left the Navy in 1980. He was a dear friend, mentor, sensei and loved one. I`ve tried to reconnect with Lamont for years. It`s with a heavy heart I want to wish his family, friends and loved one my deepest condolences. I was a Black Belt in Kenpo so we trained every single day for two years. That developed into a friendship I could never put into words. No one has ever pushed my as hard or rode my butt as hard when I wasn't putting in the effort. Driving me beyond myself. Smashing a cake in my face when I was eat cheating one night before my first full contact fight. It was all good. If I lost a tooth. I use to joke. He was our dental tech. We basically did everything together. I see Pete has posted. I remember seeing Pete when Lamont and I competed at a tournament at Luther Burbank High. I have many great pictures including some from a Karate photo shoot we did in Tokyo. I find comfort reading how great of a man he was. Along with the comfort Lamont is at peace with the Lord. "Lamont, I am still lost without you brother... yes you are still ever present. I still read your text and have conversations with you. Whenever I touch a tool, I remember you lecturing me on safety. Growing up with all women I am grateful you took me under your wings. You taught me how to fight. Develop self confidence. We were magical in the way we sparred together in martial arts. We stayed straight and made it out of the environment that consumed many of our friends. We all relied on you and you never asked for anything in return. I miss you but I know you are with Mom, brother and you are watching over my beloved sister and mom. Thank you for being my life long friend. I know you are eternally with our Lord and Savior and that comforts me. I will see you again and thank you from the bottom of my heart. Love you brother....Pete"

It comforts me to know that your brother and mother are there to guide you on your journey. Always, your friend Benny \"Blam\" "

"Marcus Howard How do you say, I miss you brotha! I can?t, say it because you?re ever present. Any time I?m working on a project I have reflections of a myriad of things reminding me of your presence. You see, we go a long way back over 58 years! We played kickball, the very first sport we were introduced to at 5 years old. Re ran up and down the blacktop and what little field own the play ground, challenging each other on our turn to see who could kick the furthest, run the fastest around the bases. Who would have known , 10 years later we?d still be running but the competition was an opposing team in what was then, the Metro League, track and field and football were the sports. There are so many memories through decades of brothahood I have to reflect on, you?ve given me quite a bit particularly the past 12-15 years. You?ll be missed physically but always present. Anita says, Lamont has one of the biggest hearts of any I know, always so generous! Forward Observer, Rest In Paradise ( RIP) One Love to family, may we always have Love and pray for God?s Blessings??????"

"Donna & Family, Our prayers and thoughts are with you during this difficult time. We feel privileged and fortunate to have known Lamont ten years as our handyman. He was very talented and skilled in repairing or installing just about anything around the house. Over the years, he installed faucets, doors, blinds, sinks, garbage disposals, bathroom wall & floor tiles, repaired wooden decks, washer pump etc. When we were out of town on extended cruises, he would stop by to water our plants. These are just some of the things he did for us over the years. Lamont was always punctual and dependable when he decided to do a job. We know that we will never, ever find another person like him as a friend and handyman. Lamont was special and will never be forgotten."

"Dear Donna and Family, Although no words can ease the loss you bear, know you\'re very close in my thoughts and prayers. Lamont was one of a kind, funny, genuine, loving - a soul taken too soon. Heaven has certainly earned a beautiful angel who I know will be watching over each of you. May the peace that comes from the memories of your love comfort you now and in the days ahead. Sending you all my love and hugs. "

"Lamont was my son?s soccer coach. He was an excellent role model. He and Donna probably don?t realize how much I appreciated them for including my son in so many things. It made things better for me as a single mother. Lamont volunteered to help install sprinkler systems in not one-but two of my homes in a 3 year span. He was a class act and will be missed by all that we?re lucky enough to call him friend. I?m so blessed to have met he and his loving wife Donna. I?m still in disbelief, but I?m comforted to know that God gained another beautiful soul in Heaven. Rosalyn Hackworth"

"Donna and family, Lamont and I go back to 1967 Jedediah Smith elementary school. Ever since that time we all went our separate ways. Then we all came back together and carried on with fishing and helping each other out whenever we needed help with something. He\'s been like a brother to me, as you know there\'s quite a few of us that all go back to that time. He\'ll be missed but know he will not be forgotten. May you all find peace and comfort.
