In loving memory of

Marion Richard (Rick) Stone, Jr.
June 3, 1955 - October 9, 2020

Marion Richard (Rick) Stone, Jr., age 65, of Suwanee, GA passed away peacefully on October 9, 2020 following a hard fought battle with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. Rick was born in Burlington, NC to the late Marion Richard Stone, Sr. and Marcelle Toney Stone.

Rick grew up in Melbourne Beach, FL and Rutherford County, NC. He graduated from North Carolina State University with degrees in Computer Science and Chemistry. His career as a Software Engineer spanned from creative startup companies to Fortune 500 corporations. He retired in 2017.

In his free time and after retiring, Rick enjoyed spending time traveling, being outdoors, camping, and taking photos of nature and wildlife. He also appreciated a good whiskey or an IPA beer, the occasional cigar, and playing darts with friends. Rick was very handy and could often be found working on small projects around the house and helping friends and neighbors. Rick loved a good fire, inside and outdoors, and would keep a large wood pile ready to go for the cool weather seasons.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Marcia Marbut Stone, and their daughter, Meredith Paige Stone. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Jay Dixon of Orlando, FL and brother and sister-in-law Greg and Janet Stone of Cary, NC. His nephews Bruce and Susan Dixon with daughter Rosalie of Orlando, Alan and Aly Stone of Raleigh, NC and niece Leigh Stone of Charlotte, NC also survive.

A celebration of Rick's life will be held in the coming days with family and close friends, details to be provided.

We would like to thank the professionals at Emory Winship Cancer Institute for their care of Rick through this tough fight with a rare, aggressive cancer and Agape Hospice Care for helping us through these final days.

Please consider donations in Rick's honor for cholangiocarcinoma research and patient support to the Emory Winship Cancer Institute (winshipcancer.emory.edu/support-winship/give/memorial-gifts.html) or the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation (cholangiocarcinoma.org).

"What can we say about this awesome neighbor and friend. Rick was always nearby to lend a helping hand, sometimes before we even knew we would need it! Rick, Marcia and Meredith (and Kayla) are like our family. Rest in peace dear one. Cathie, Guy & Ellie"

"To Marcia and Meredith, my deepest sympathy for the loss of your husband and father. Just wanted to say how much I always enjoyed hanging out with Rick on the back deck at the lake, shooting the breeze and having a cold one, sometimes his own batch ? which was pretty good. He always had something fascinating to say about the latest hi-tech innovations that were happening in his field. I still recall having a blast with Rick and you all in Apalachicola, grilling those famous oysters at the beach house. Rick was a good man, and he?ll be sorely missed. But remember his spirit will always be with you. Rest in peace, Rick. "

"Marcia, Meredith and family, I am saddened to learn of Rick\'s passing. I am blessed to have been in contact with him the past few months through social media, and was delighted to share memories of band trips and rides in the famous orange Mustang among other highlights of being an RS Central Hilltopper. I admired his courage, and his forthcoming ability to share his journey with those us who knew and loved him. Heart hugs to you, to Nancy and Greg, their spouses and children. Rick loved his family, and I send my love to each of you. Beverly Petty Flynn, Rutherfordton, NC"
