Amelia J. Rush, known to everyone as Amy, age 98 of Dunnellon, Florida, passed away on
September 20th in Ocala, Florida at the home of her daughter, Sherry Smith.
Amy was born in Staten Island, NY to Mate' & Matia Jerkovich. She married Charles Rush Jr. after they met in New York City where she worked for Lipton Tea Company. They married and Amy moved to Dunnellon, Florida in 1943. She worked in the couple's hardware
Store for years as bookkeeper and purchaser for the home goods section of the store.
She was renowned for her cooking talents as she became the quintessential southern cook.
In the 1970's Amy acquired her real estate license and became a successful realtor/developer, developing along with her partners, both Blue Cove Unit II and Lake Gardens of Citrus. Amy was also a talented artist, flower arranger and decorator.
Amy is survived by her son, Charles Wesley Rush III, her daughter, Sherry Rush Smith, her grandsons, Christopher Ryan Zaideman, Matthew Rush Zaideman, Michael Adam Smith, Jr. and granddaughter, Melissa Rush, along with five great grandchildren.
Due to Covid 19, a memorial service will be held for immediate family only at Christ the King Anglican Church. Roberts of Ocala, downtown Chapel, will be handling the funeral arrangements.
