James E. Curtis
October 1, 1952 - September 11, 2020

A private family service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 17, 2020 at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Algona. A public visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Algona. Social distancing practices will be followed, and masks are encouraged. The funeral will be live streamed on Oakcrest Funeral Services' Facebook page. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery in Algona.

James Eldon Curtis was born October 1, 1952, in Burt, son of Charles and Minerva (Warne) Curtis. He grew up in Burt and graduated from Burt High School in 1972.

On March 12, 1977, he was united in marriage to Cheri (Hansen) Curtis at Doan United Methodist Church in Titonka. Together, they were blessed with their son Cory.

At a young age, Jim worked many odd jobs with his father. He then worked many years at Snap-on until retirement in 2014.

Jim loved being surrounded by his family and friends, especially his granddaughter, Rosanne. He was considered a great friend to anybody he talked to and came into contact with. He also enjoyed fishing. In his younger years he loved his fishing trips to Brainerd, MN, with Cheri and Cory. You could often find Jim and his family at the dirt track races. Following retirement, he would travel to many different dirt tracks. You could also find him helping fix race cars.

Jim died Friday, September 11, 2020, in Algona, at the age of 67.

He is survived by his son, Cory (Jennifer) Curtis of Whittemore; granddaughter, Rosanne Curtis of Whittemore; brothers, Dallas (Kathy) Curtis of New Richland, MN, David Curtis of Algona; sisters, Audrey (Dennis) Johnson of Lincoln, NE, Marsha Curtis of Rodgers, AR, Charlene (Ron) Baas of Algona, Cheryl (Danny) Fourage of Algona; sister-in-law, Starla Hansen of Kanawha; brother-in-law, Francis Arend of Burt; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Preceding him in death are his parents; wife, Cheri; brothers, Charles Curtis, Clifford (Beverly) Curtis; sister, Marlys Nelson; brother-in-law, Michael Hansen; and sister-in-law, Debbie Arend.

"On Jims 60th Birthday we had front row seats for Arlo Guthrie in Fairmont Mn,Bob Hansen and i and jim got there early and we talked to Arlo out by his bus.That Big Grin was on his Face the whole time,He said it was the best birthday he ever had,i told him that was for all the help on the Race Cars over the years,Great Buddy will be missed R.I.P.
