Samuel Andrew Gaines
April 1, 1936 - October 27, 2010

Samuel Andrew Gaines, age 74 of Washington, went to be with the Lord at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Washington Nursing Center. He was born April, 1, 1936 in Washington to Samuel Alvin and Helen (Downey) Gaines. He will be sadly missed by his children, grandchildren, and other family members. He attended Washington High School and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a member of Main Street Wesleyan Church and Vincennes Ave. Wesleyan and retired from INS Trucking. He is survived three daughters and son-in-law, Terri and Brian Fink of Oakwood, Illinois, Sandra and Brian McClure of Bicknell, and Tracy and Robert Vance of Akron; one son and daughter-in-law, Samuel Allen and Kimberly Gaines of Washington; ten grandchildren, Sam Gaines, Nicole Beck, Brandon Fink, Tricia Roark, Krista Perkins, Nathan McClure, Andrew Vance, Joshua Vance, Angela Vance, and Shyanne Vance; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Eugene (Ellen) Gaines of Downey, Calif., and Terry "Mike" (Donna) Gaines of Washington; six sisters, Betty Roberts of Washington, Judy Woody of Shoals, Mary (Jack) Purdue of Washington, Gwen (Keith) Graber of Loogootee, Gale (Rick) Adams of Spencer, and Tonja (Scott) Fields of Bedford; a sister-in-law Edna Gaines of Washington, and a special companion, Laura Nicholson of Washington. His wife, Caroline (Rice) Gaines, whom he married December 5, 1956, died December 19, 2000. One brother, William A. Gaines and a brother-in-law, Don Roberts are also deceased. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ed Lee Mortuary with Rev Bob England and Pastor Robert Vance officiating. Burial will be in Sugarland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. Memorial donations may be made to the South Wind Wesleyan Church, 1782 Troy Road, Washington, IN 47501.
