Reba McGookey

Reba Irene McGookey, age 90, passed away at 10:57 PM on Sunday at Daviess Community Hospital. She was born on May 27, 1922 in Barr Township to Joseph and Minnie (Jones) Feagans. She graduated as valedictorian from Washington High School in 1940 and attended Franklin College. She had worked for Citizens Bank and retired from United Southwest Bank (Old National Bank) and was a member of Washington First Christian Church where she had been an organist and choir member. She was an avid basketball fan and enjoyed cooking and sewing. She is survived by one daughter and son in-law, Diane and Darrel Beeker of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sons and daughters in-law, James D. and Cindy McGookey of Huntingburg, and Robert L. and Mary Beth McGookey of Washington; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, James R. McGookey on May 23, 2010, whom she had married on September 24, 1943. She is also preceded in death by three sisters, Mildred Dampier, Avis Lemonds, and Beulah Guthrie, and one brother, Homer Feagans. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Thursday at First Christian Church with Pastor Byron Holtsclaw officiating. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 PM on Wednesday at Ed Lee Mortuary and 9 AM till the hour of services on Thursday at the Church.
