Robert E. Fisher
January 24, 1922 - January 24, 2008

Robert E. Fisher, 86, of Washington passed away at 11:26 a.m. Thursday at Daviess Community Hospital. Born August 12, 1921 in Daviess County he was the son of the late Tyra A. and Alma C. (Wilson) Fisher. He attended Washington Community Schools and was a member St. Simon Catholic Church and the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He retired in 1984 from Shoals National Gypsum after 30 years. He was a U. S. Army veteran where he served in the 24th Evacuation hospital during World War II in the European Theatre. He was attached to the 101st Air Borne serving in France, Germany, Belgium, and Holland. He landed on Omaha Beach on June 9, 1944 and while serving his country was awarded four battle stars. He is survived by his wife, Frances M. (Queen) Fisher, whom he married May 10, 1943; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas E. and Pharlee Fisher of Florida and Bryan J. and Debbie Fisher of Washington; three grandsons, Scott, Eric, and Brandon Fisher; and three great grandchildren, Evyn, Macy, and Allie Fisher. He is preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd E. Fisher and Voila Fisher. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Simon Catholic Church with Father Gordon Mann as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Full military graveside rites will be conducted by the Washington American Legion and VFW. There will be no visitation. Ed Lee Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
