Helen Pauline Howard, age 84, of Washington went to be with the Lord at 9 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2007. Born February 21, 1923 in Liberty, Indiana she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary A. (Mitchell) Woodson. She attended Richmond High School and was a licensed beautician. She had owned and operated Helen's Beauty Shop. She was a member of the AME Church and was very active in the community. Surviving is one son and daughter-in-law, Leslie W. and Lavenia Howard of North Ridge, CA; one daughter and son-in-law, Paula V. and Vincent Knox of Washington; five sisters, Ardelia Hawkins and Barbara Henderson both of Richmond, Thelma Harmon of North Vernon, Mary Frances Barksdale of Fort Wayne, and Juanita Buirst of Chicago, IL; five grandchildren, Leslie A. Knox of Arizona, Victoria and Valerie Knox both of Washington, Leslie Wenston Howard and Jeffery Howard both of North Ridge, CA; one great-grandchild, Aryanna Kruchten of Washington; and one aunt, Mrs. Mary Bea Woodson of Richmond. She married Garfield Howard on September 7, 1954 and he died July 27, 1998. Two sisters, Alice Luney and Evelyn Taylor and one brother Charles Everett Woodson are also deceased. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ed Lee Mortuary with Rev. Ann Embry and Rev Robert Granger officiating. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
