"Jackie Smith was my first friend that I can remember. I thought the sun rose and set on her. She had everything I hadn't and always shared it with me and my little brother Mark. Kaye and John were always so kind and fun. I loved babysitting for little Steve and visiting them when they moved to the country. I cried when they left but got to stay all night a few times so we stayed in touch some. Later when we were in high school we sort of lost touch. My mother, brother Mark and I moved to West Lafayette and eventually made a life there. Three years ago I was visiting my very sick brother John Peek and was just trying to find something to do, so stopped at the Dollar Store on the highway to Vincennes, when suddenly I heard a voice say "Is that you Janet"? Of course it was Jackie. After almost 40 some years we meet again, and all I can say is it was actually a spirtual moment. We just hugged and looked at each other, so happy to be togeter one more time. When I received the news that Jackie had passed I burst into tears and felt such a loss of my childhood that was so good and so sweet, and can only imagine how much the rest of her family must feel. I am truly sorry for all of you, but know you have been blessed to have had her in your life. Bless and keep you, Jackie's friend Janet."
