Marilyn K. Mattes
December 6, 1947 - November 13, 2017

Marilyn K. Mattes, age 69, of Washington, passed away November 13, 2017.


She was born on December 6, 1947 in Batesville, Indiana to Kenneth and Ancille (Kipp) Davis.  She graduated from Brookville High School in 1965 and Indiana State University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education and obtained her Masters in Elementary Education in 1972 at Indiana State University. She had taught at Avon Elementary in 1969 and started teaching in Washington in 1970 at West End Elementary and Veale.  She had also taught Title One math at Griffith, Lenna Dunn and Washington Catholic Schools. She retired from Washington Community Schools on May 31, 2004. Marilyn was a member of the Central Christian Church, where she was an active member of Christian Women’s Fellowship, Church Choir, Jubilee Christmas and the Navajo work camp mission in New Mexico, Eastern Star Lodge 410, Alpha Sigma Alpha at Indiana State University, Monday Afternoon Club, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.


She is survived her husband Larry Mattes, whom she married June 7, 1970; three daughters, Rachel Mattes, Sarah Stuckey and Rebecca Mattes all of Indianapolis; brother, Richard (Honey) Davis of Greensburg; two sisters, Jeanne Wilson of Fountain City, Indiana and Elizabeth (Sandy) Ping of Cincinnati, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Dakota Mattes, Breana Mattes, Lucas Mattes, Sam Mattes, Kennedy Stuckey, Kristen Stuckey and Nevaeh Mattes.


She was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Kaitlyn Mattes; and brother-in-law, Carl Wilson.


A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday at Central Christian Church in Washington, 10 W Van Trees St, Washington, IN 47501, with Rev John Dunn officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM– 8:00 PM on Friday at Central Christian Church in Washington.


In lieu of flowers donations may be given to Central Christian Church, 10 W Van Trees St, Washington, IN 47501.
