Robert Hagel

Robert D. Hagel, age 85, of Washington died Monday, May 2, 2011 at the Washington Nursing Center. He had been in failing health since January. Born July 12, 1925 in Seymour, he was the second of four children born to John P. and Fay (Parker) Hagel. He was a 1943 graduate of Washington High School and the Elgin School of Watchmakers in 1947. During World War II, he served in the Pacific aboard the USS San Jacinto for three years as a member of the United States Navy. Bob and his brother, Thomas Hagel, owned and operated Hagel's Jewelers in Washington until his retirement in 1991. Surviving is his wife, Patricia (Staver) Hagel, whom he married September 27, 1953; a daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Ron Rieke of The Woodlands, Texas; three grandchildren, Anton, Leah, and Jenna Riecke all of The Woodlands, Texas; his brother, Thomas L. Hagel of Washington; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son, John Hagel; his parents, one brother, John B. "Jack" Hagel; and one sister, Phyllis Hudson.
