Chester Ray
September 1, 2020 - August 31, 2007

Chester P. Ray age 87, died peacefully, surrounded by his family at 9:25 PM on Thursday at his home, The Heritage House in Greensburg, Indiana where he was lovingly cared for since 2002. He was born on September 25, 1919 in Washington he was the son of Walter and Matilda ( Dennis) Ray. He graduated from the 8th grade of St. Simon Grade School and began a long industrious life of work including; furniture, carpet, and linoleum sales and installation for Daily's Furniture; sewing machine sales for Singer; vacuum cleaner repair; and retiring from Armour Processing Plant On October 9, 1940 he married the love of his life, Alma Louise Worland. Chester lived most of his life in Washington where he was active member of St. Simon Catholic Church and the Washington Knights of Columbus. When he moved to Columbus , Indiana he became an active member of St. Columbia Catholic Church where he and his wife served as Eucharistic Ministers for years. Chester was a gentle happy soul, whose smile, laughter, and steady caring brought warmth, comfort, and joy to every life that he touched. He lives on in his beloved brother Cecil (wife eloise0 RAY OF Vincennes, his beloved sister, Mary Fitzgerald, his sister in-law, Rose Mary Carrico both of Washington; his son, Paul Terry (wife Dianne) Ray of flat Rock, Indiana; his grandson, Todd (wife Jennifer) Ray and their sons, Nicholas and Tristen of Lindstrom, Minnesota; his granddaughter, Diane (husband Tony) Smith and their children , Brettney. James, and Bria of apple Valley, Minnesota; his granddaughter, Shea Coulter of Indianapolis, Indiana; and many loved nieces and nephews. At death Chester joined his beloved wife Alma; his parents; his sisters, Esther, Marie, anf Rita; his brother Leonard; his twin brother, Lester; his son Joseph Chester; his beloved daughter and her family, Elizabeth (Betty) Louise Walls, husband Jim, and their precious children, Randy and Rhonda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 AM at St. Simon Catholic Church with burial following in St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 4 to 8 PM at Ed Lee Mortuary in Washington, Indiana with a K of C rosary at 6:30 PM Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana 2626 East 17th Street, Columbus, Indiana 47201.
