In loving memory of

Rachel Mattes
November 18, 1973 - September 6, 2018

Rachel Mattes, age 44, of Washington, passed away September 6, 2018 at 3:40 PM at St Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

She was born on November 18, 1973 to Larry and Marilyn (Davis) Mattes. She graduated from Washington High School in 1992. Rachel was a member of Central Christian Church, sang in the choir and was the assistant manager at Goody’s.

She is survived by her children Dakota Mattes of Washington, Breana Mattes of Washington and Sam Mattes of Washington; her father, Larry Mattes of Washington; two sisters, Sarah Stuckey and Rebecca Mattes both of Indianapolis; nieces, Kennedy Stuckey and Kristen Stuckey both of Indianapolis and Nevaeh Mattes of Indianapolis.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Edwin L. Mattes and Florida Mattes and Kenneth Davis and Ancille Davis; mother, Marilyn Mattes; daughter, Kaitlyn Mattes and son, Lucas Mattes.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2018, at Central Christian Church in Washington, 10 W Van Trees St, Washington, IN 47501, with Rev John Dunn officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Central Christian Church.

As a family we remember the uniqueness of Rachel. She was a loving mother, sister, daughter and aunt who was a free spirit who marched to the beat of her own drum.  Rachel lived her life on her own terms and never apologized for who she was. She was fiercely loyal and would do whatever she could to help others. She was very outgoing and never met a stranger. She would make you feel comfortable and at ease almost immediately. If she was your friend, she was your friend. If she was not your friend, she was not your enemy.

Rachel was a supporter of the Indiana Donor Network and she believed that even in death, life can go on for others. She was a firm believer that this is what Gods will would be, to help others, even in the midst of tragedy, even for one’s own family.

The family requests that you please do not send flowers or memorial items. If you wish to express any type of sympathy, please make donations to Central Christian Church, Permanent Memorial Fund or Suicide Prevention, 10 W Van Trees St, Washington, Indiana 47501, in honor of Rachel. All checks should be made payable to Central Christian Church.

"Rach.. You are missed so much. I remember when you use to stop what you were doing and came and visit us. You had such the biggest heart anyone could possibly have. Rachel was the loveliest women anyone could possibly meet. Even if she had problems of her own she would take the time and help you out. I remember the day I was upset about my mom, she was the only one that helped me out, She would hold me in her arms and let me cry on her shoulder. Im going miss her so much, I already do :( . She was like my other mom.. She ALWAYS spoke her mind. Im going to miss her, I love you Rach, now your with your other loved ones, you guys are in good hands now :("

"I only met Rachel twice. The first time was the day that Lucas died. She came to my house to get his things. Lucas was my sons best friend and part of our family. Rachel messaged me often to check on the boys after he passed away. She had a heart of gold and always wanted to make sure we were ok even though she had been the one that lost her son. Rest is peace with your babies Rachel!"

"Rachel started out in my life as the daughter of good friends, progressed thru one of my all-time favorite students, to a good adult buddy. She was always Rachel, true to herself in every way, and true to her friends. This past year has shown what a strong woman she had become. I will miss her "rants" at the cruelities and stupidities in life; she spoke what others silently thought. May you rest now, Rachel, in a kinder place. Hugs and sympathy to her dad, sisters, and kiddos."
