Walter A. Evans, age 98, of Washington, passed away at 3:30 AM on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Hillside Manor Nursing Home. He was born on March 23, 1914 in Shoals to George and Alice (Wininger) Evans. He was a World War II US Army Veteran. He was a member of the Washington American Legion and the Disable American Veterans. He was a barber in Washington for 37 years. After his retirement he enjoyed wood working making many different items for both family and friends. He is survived by his wife Edna M (Keller) Evans whom he married on October 18, 1942; two daughters and sons in-law, Delora and Larry Lamb of Washington and Linda and Gene Greene of Canton, Ohio; five grandchildren, Travis Greene ,Dirk (Kelli) Greene, Beth Greene, Amy (Ken) Showalter and Jill (Chris) Burks; seven great grandchildren, Gabi Greene, Grace Greene, Gavin Greene, Amber Showalter, Mackenzie Showalter, Maggie Burks and Reid Burks; and one sister, Isma Brothers of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by, brothers and sisters, Lois Nicholson, Ida Rigg, Wilson Evans, Ocie Bateman, Flossie Evans, Charles Evans, Anslie Evans, Lillian Newcomb, Cresy Evans, and Gerry Evans. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Friday at Ed Lee Mortuary with Yvonne Evans officiating. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Washington American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00p.m. on Thursday at Ed Lee Mortuary.
