John W. Casper
June 16, 1921 - March 12, 2008

John W. Casper age 86 of Washington passed away this morning at 1:30 AM at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes. He was born on June 16, 1921 in Washington to Nicholas and Anna (Neighbor) Casper. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Washington American Legion, Washington VFW, and Washington Knights of Columbus. He served in the US Army during World War II as a member of the 811th Tank Destroyer Outfit, He received several awards including the Purple Heart after being wounded during the Battle of the Bulge. He retired in 1972 from the Naval Surface Warfare Center at Crane after 24 Years of service. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Margaret (Cannon) Casper whom he married on September 19, 1945; three sons, Jeffrey L. Casper, William M. Casper, and Steven W. Casper all of Washington; one daughter and son in-law. Amy Casper Tuggle and Daniel Tuggle of Washington; sister, Normagene Casper Kennedy of Washington; grandchildren, Lendi Tuggle Eskew and amber Casper Tompkins both of and two great grandchildren, Breah Eskew and Owen Tompkins both of He was preceded in death by his father, Nicholas Casper; his mother Anna Casper McCausland; one infant daughter, Lou Ann Casper; and one brother Joseph Casper A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Gordon Mann officiating. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery with military rites to be conducted by the Washington American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Thursday at Ed Lee Mortuary with a wake service at 4:00 PM and a K of C Rosary at 7:00 pm Memorial Donations may be made to the Washington Education Endowment P.O.
