Thomas Taggart

Thomas O. Taggart age 68 of Rockville passed away Friday at 5:25 a.m. at I.U. Medical Center in Indianapolis. He was born on June 14, 1939 in Washington to Bernice and Robert Taggart. He graduated from North Vernon High School and was a US Marine Corp Veteran. He was a member of the Washington American Legion and VFW, Gold Wing Motor Cycle Club, Billmore First Responders, and Billmore Volunteer Fire Department where he served as president the last two years. He had retired in 2001 from Metal Masters in Indianapolis. He loved listening to classical music while working with wood in his woodworking shop. Surviving is his wife Karen (Ray) Taggart whom he married on February 14, 1977; one daughter and son in-law, Judena and Bryan Hirshman of Evansville; one daughter in-law, Melody Taggart of Brownsburg; 4 grandchildren, Erik Taggart and Shelby Taggart both of Brownsburg, Ryan Hirshman and Hunter Hirshman both of Evansville; mother-in-law, Lucille Ray of Washington; 4 brothers-in-law, Ron Ray, Alan (Loretta) Ray, and Roger (Jackie) Ray, all of Washington, and David (Chris) Ray of Evansville; and two sisters-in-law, Marcella (Denny)Brown and Brenda Leighty both of Washington He was preceded in death by one son, Douglas Wade Taggart on June 13, 1983, his father, Robert Taggart and his mother, Bernice Stearns. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Simon Catholic Church with Father Gordon Mann as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery with military rite by Washington American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday with a Billmore Volunteer Fire Department memorial service at 7:00 pm. Memorial donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society.
