Shawn Wesley Geer passed away Sunday, August 30, 2020, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 54, surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Shawn was born May 18, 1966, in Kansas City, Kan. to Wesley and Judy (Neece) Geer. He grew up in Kansas City and graduated from Blue Valley High School in Overland Park, Kan. After high school, Shawn went on to achieve his Master of Divinity from Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City.

Shawn was united in marriage to Yolanda Woods on March 24, 1990, in Kansas City. They welcomed 3 sons and 1 daughter into their family, whom he loved and enjoyed watching grow. After Shawn graduated from Seminary, the family moved to Plainfield, Iowa where he was the pastor at First Baptist Church of Plainfield for 15 years, before moving to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They moved to Renwick, Iowa in March of 2020 where he was the Pastor at the Renwick Baptist Church.

Shawn loved to play video/board games and paintball with his children, as well as spending time in the workshop. He reveled in spending time with family and friends, and was passionate in spreading the word of God.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Yolanda Geer of Renwick; sons, Joshua (Megan Terfehn) Geer of Shell Rock, Iowa, Jacob (Jeanne) Geer of Des Moines, Caleb (Devin) Geer of Rochester, Minn.; daughter, Hannah Geer of Spencer; grandson, Ian Wesley Geer; step-granddaughter, Macy Bonebrake, parents, Wesley and Judy Geer of Overland Park; sister, Wendie (Scott) Berry of McLouth, Kan.; and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Ruby Neece and his mother in-law, Carolyn Woods.

I live in PA and when we were growing up and came out to Kansas I always stayed at Wes and Judy?s cause Shawn and I were pretty close. He was a great cousin from a distance to me.
