Leno Lerma Alba was born September 23, 1931 in Austin Texas to Fred and Carmen Alba. He passed away August 25, 2020. Leno was 88 years old, almost 89. Leno wanted to live to be as old as his grandfather who died at 91. He almost made it.
Leno grew up in Dripping Springs, Texas. He worked hard from shearing sheep and goats, cutting firewood, hauling hay, Alba's café, he built fence and did rockwork. Some of this he taught to his boys. Leno was always busy. Around Thanksgiving and Christmas he and Debbie made LOTS of tamales (last year a couple hundred dozens) so he could give something to his kids for Christmas. Of course we were happy with the tamales, tomato preserves and anything he cooked.
Leno was famous for his garden. He wanted to make sure everyone had plenty to eat, so he would share with everyone. Each year his garden had to be a little bigger because there were a few more kids to feed.
Leno was a strong man and lived life to the fullest.
Leno lived with his wife Debbie Rodriguez for 40 years. They moved to Coleman Texas two years ago to live on his grandson, Bobby and Lisa's ranch. He really enjoyed riding around the ranch on his mule and maybe get a little fishing in with Jacob.
Leno was survived by his wife Debbie Rodriguez, sister Minnie Alvarez, sons Sammy Alba wife Louwyn, James Alba, Lino Alba Jr wife Stacie, Perry Alba wife Joanna, David Rodriguez, Adam Alba wife Krystal, daughters Joann Martinez, Lori Alba, Michelle Davila husband JP, and Carmen Alba. Leno had 28 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, 13 great, great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Leno was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Carmen Alba, one sister Rosemary Avila and one great, great granddaughter Arianna Luck.
Harrell Funeral Home remains committed to the health of our community and following instructions from our local authorities. New gathering requirements are allowing more people to attend funeral services at one time. The number of guests permitted to gather is dependent on the capacity of the room where the service is occurring. The Dripping Springs Chapel can hold 50 guests at one time. All guests attending services are required to wear protective masks and practice social distancing etiquette. Also, we have increased cleaning protocols to make our home as safe as possible. Guests with compromised immune systems or feeling ill are asked to join services from the safety of their homes.

"Leno taught his children to be honest and to work hard. What more words of praise can be said of a father. His sons have passed that lesson on to their children. Now, to honor their Grandfather, it is up to his Grandchildren to teach all 48 great grand-children the same lessons. There is no greater tribute to a life is there than that. Good job Leno. Now your job is done. Rest in peace. With great respect - Clare and Steven Layton."
