Psalm 27
Refrain: The Lord is my light and my salvation.
1 The Lord is my light and my salvation;
whom then shall I fear? ?
The Lord is the strength of my life;
of whom then shall I be afraid?
2 When the wicked, even my enemies and my foes,
came upon me to eat up my flesh, ?
they stumbled and fell.
3 Though a host encamp against me,
my heart shall not be afraid, ?
and though there rise up war against me,
yet will I put my trust in him.
4 One thing have I asked of the Lord
and that alone I seek: ?
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
5 To behold the fair beauty of the Lord ?
and to seek his will in his temple.
6 For in the day of trouble
he shall hide me in his shelter; ?
in the secret place of his dwelling shall he hide me
and set me high upon a rock.
7 And now shall he lift up my head ?
above my enemies round about me;
8 Therefore will I offer in his dwelling an oblation
with great gladness; ?
I will sing and make music to the Lord. [R]
9 Hear my voice, O Lord, when I call; ?
have mercy upon me and answer me.
10 My heart tells of your word, ?Seek my face.? ?
Your face, Lord, will I seek.
11 Hide not your face from me, ?
nor cast your servant away in displeasure.
12 You have been my helper; ?
leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.
13 Though my father and my mother forsake me, ?
the Lord will take me up.
14 Teach me your way, O Lord; ?
lead me on a level path,
because of those who lie in wait for me.
15 Deliver me not into the will of my adversaries, ?
for false witnesses have risen up against me,
and those who breathe out violence.
16 I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord ?
in the land of the living.
17 Wait for the Lord;
be strong and he shall comfort your heart; ?
wait patiently for the Lord.
Refrain: The Lord is my light and my salvation.
God, our light and our salvation,
illuminate our lives,
that we may see your goodness in the land of the living,
and, looking on your beauty,
may be changed into the likeness of Jesus Christ our Lord."

"In memory of Mom, Marjorie, I am leaving this note ? not long before the Anniversary of her passing. Awhile before Mom went into Assisted Living, we watched some old VHS Video musicals, including ?the Sound of Music? with Julie Andrews and ?April in Paris? with Doris Day. The ?Sound of Music? was significant to Mom and my cousins because she always remembered seeing it at the Theater with Uncle Albert and Aunt Colleen. Albert had said that the ?rolling hills? depicted in the Film were just like he remembered of his native Latvia. Mom also noted that ?it was a sad time? when the German Army tried to take control of the Von Trapp Family. The other film, ?April in Paris? was significant because both Mom and Dad loved Doris Day and her singing voice. Perhaps this name association was also significant to her love of Jason Day?s PGA Golf (though not related to Doris). In the Fall to Winter of 2018, we would listen to the Husker Football on our ?soundbar.? I believe that Mom was even more patient than myself in continuing to listen to the Huskers when they didn?t play well.
Mom?s favorite food was probably her Salmon with lemon and spice and the Keurig Cup Coffee called Original Donut Shop, Sweet and Creamy Regular. Mom would also allow me to ?soak her feet? and then trim her toenails ? which I had also done in her assisted living apartment. We would watch ?Jeopardy? with Alex Trebek and the Sunday, PGA Golf when she felt up to it.
Mom had instructed me that she didn?t want a regular funeral and that a prayer read with the ?burial-of-the-ashes? would be sufficient ? similar to the prayer read by a Cousin when Aunt Mary?s casket was buried at Chapel Hill. I went beyond the simple prayer reading with the 13 minute soundtrack which I put together for Mom, but knew that she considered ?Il Divo? among ?the best? of her music collection, including live concerts on DVD in London and Tokyo.
Mom, I feel close to you when I visit the Columbarium and bring flowers. This reminds me that it probably won?t be long until I need to use the Snowblower. You will always be special to me because you were also my Friend. At times I get lonely and will play the Anne Murray or ?Rhapsody in Blue? CD?s which I played for you at the Hospice. Mom was patient and caring, even in the Hospice before her farewell. Some days I would offer her chilled pineapple juice with a straw ? which she enjoyed. I believe she left us when the ?Somewhere? song by Il Divo was playing in the Hospice room. There will come a time when my ashes will be placed in the same Columbarium, which we share, but until then I am happy that Mom didn?t have to live through the Pandemic as a resident of a Senior?s Facility. And Mom, say a prayer for our Family as we all ?weather the Pandemic on Earth.? My love to you, Sean

"Marjorie was my after-school babysitter when I attended Hillside Elementary in the early 1980s. She was a master player of board games (always let me win), bought the finest Oreo cookies, and had the biggest collection of turtles north of Dodge Street. For the next 30+ years, she never missed sending me a birthday or Christmas card. She was always so thoughtful. The Griffith family was blessed with Marjorie."
