Michael Francis Janik
March 28, 1955 - August 3, 2020

Michael F. Janik, 65, of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, passed away at the Massachusetts General Hospital on August 3, 2020.

Michael was born in Xenia, OH to the late Francis J. Janik, Jr. and Blodwyn (Edwards) Janik. He was the husband of Susan (Buteau) Janik for 28 years.

Michael earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Cincinnati and master's degree at Northeastern University.

Fulfilling his passion of designing, Mike worked for Raytheon for over 40 years culminating in his position of Senior Technologist responsible for Undersea Research and Development. His specific areas of focus include Anti-Submarine Warfare, Anti-Surface Warfare, Mine Warfare, Fixed and Mobile Surveillance, and Intelligence & Reconnaissance. Through his dedicated work he became a respected subject matter expert not only within Raytheon but to other companies and government agencies. Always seeking to learn, Michael achieved honors as an Engineering Fellow, and shared that knowledge through symposiums in an ultimate goal of achieving industry-wide excellence.

Mike was a devoted father to his two children and will be remembered for his hearty laugh, acceptance and kindness. He also enjoyed sharing his Sakonnet River home with family and friends where he treated them to a boat ride followed by a steak dinner and ice-cold margaritas.

Besides his wife he leaves his daughter, Katrina Janik Lortz , (Charles Richard) of Corpus Christi, Texas and his son, Robert Francis Janik of Boston, MA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Blodwyn Janik.

He leaves behind his sisters, Kathleen (Richard) Powell, Patricia Janik and brother, James Janik.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bristo,l RI. His funeral services and burial will be private.

A public celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.
