Jack LeeRoy Thompson
November 2, 1931 - July 8, 2020

Jack LeeRoy Thompson 89 died Wednesday July 8, 2020, at Marion General Hospital. Jack was born in Marion, Indiana to Roy Thompson and Martha (Mallie) Belle (Frazier) Morrical.

He lived in both Muncie and Marion when he was growing up, and spent time in the Akron IN area, also.

He entered the Air Force in September 1947 and finished his Air Force Service in August 1951 as a Buck Sergeant, serving during the Korean War. He was stationed at Mc Chord AFB in Washington State

Coming back to Indiana, he worked for several companies in Muncie and Marion, including Acme Lee and Ball Brothers in Muncie; and Bartlett Tree Trimming, General Tire, Foster Forbes, RCA (Thomson) in Marion, retiring from RCA-GE the end of December 1988. He then worked for John Sutton for approximately 4 years; then as a security guard at General Cable for Van Holland Securities for about 7 years.

He married Joan Wanda Echelbarger and there were 5 children born to this union, Kathryn Sue, Johnny Leeroy, David Lee, Joseph Harrison, and Daniel Lee. Joan and Daniel preceded him in death in October 1967. He married Betty Jo Hinton in 1969 and there were 2 children born to this union. Michael Allen and Gregory Andrew.

He loved many activities, including: fishing, playing pool, bowling (in many leagues), watching Indiana basketball, Notre Dame football, the White Sox, and NASCAR (Jeff Gordon fan). You could also find him reading or watching westerns. Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy became his favorite shows his past few years. Many weekends he played euchre with family and friends. He enjoyed his children, 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great grandchildren when he was able to spend time with them.

He attended worship services at Woodland Hills church of Christ.

He leaves behind his wife of over 50 years, Betty, Children: Kathryn Sue Gause, ALA, Johnny Leeroy (Zella Brown) Thompson, David Lee Thompson, Joseph Harrison Thompson, Michael Allen (Suzanne Miles) Thompson,all of Marion and Gregory Andrew (Staci Wells) Thompson of Kokomo IN 15 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren with 4 more in next 6 months.

Brother: Blaine Allen (Linda Towns) Thompson, Hartford City. Brothers-in-law: (Grover) Fred Rhodes, Pink Hill, NC, Thomas (Marsha Thompson ) Hinton, West Bath, Maine, Ronald (Pamela Hoover) Hinton, Madison, TN, Sisters-in-law: Lois Bartley, Margaret Hinton, both of Marion, Debra (James) Cassity, Albuquerque NM, and Jennifer Kline, Columbus IN Cousin Berneice ( Larry) Hall, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and their extended families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife and infant son Joan Wanda Thompson and Daniel Thompson in 1967 and her parents Virgil and Marvel Echelbarger, Maryanne Coleman Thompson, Melaina Whelchel Thompson; Son in law: Jimmy Washington, ALA Granddaughter: Mellisa Dawn Baker, NC Grandson in law: Jay Nelson, Marion Brother: William Thompson, Marion Sisters and their spouses: Charis Kenneth Tracy Jr - Muncie, Sandra John McCormick- Hartford City, Marlyn Dalton Hood-Upland, Sister: Judith Rhodes of Pink Hill, NC and infant sisters Naomi and Patricia Minnick ( Delaware County), Brother in law: James Robert Hinton, CA Step fathers: Clyde Minnick - Muncie, and Henry Freely Morrical, IN

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to College Park, Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services 4601 S. Western Ave., Marion, IN. The family will have a Celebration of Life Service at a later date. Jack will be interred at a later date at Marion National Cemetery.

"My last memory of my Uncle Jack was my son's memorial. I held his face in my hands and could see my whole family in his face he looked so much like everyone in his family. I will miss that handsome face. I love you Uncle Jack!! RIH!! Tell my mom and son I love them for me"
