Peggie J. (Owen) Howard, 82, of Upland, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, surrounded by family early Friday morning, June 28, 2019 in Fort Wayne. She was born in Hartford City, on August 21, 1936, the daughter of the late John Paul and Lavonne (Miller) Owen.
She graduated from Jefferson Township High School in 1954. She married the love of her life, Richard W. Dick Howard, on September 25, 1955. They made their home in Upland for 63 years.
Together, the Howards owned and operated Howards Ford Garage and Upland Standard Station for many years, where she was the bookkeeper. Later, she was a teller at STAR Financial Bank, Upland, for 32 years before her retirement in 1998. Her love for Jesus was evident to anyone she met and she enjoyed sharing her faith through music, including playing the piano at First Christian Church, Gas City, for over 50 years and most recently singing in the choir at Upland Community Church. For several years, she played the piano at Jones-Smith Funeral Home, Upland, where she was the third generation in her family to serve. She loved her family dearly and especially enjoyed attending her grandchildrens various activities. Since her stove was broken, she and Dick enjoyed daily meals together at Ivanhoes.
She was so loved and will be missed by many, including her husband, Dick, Upland; two daughters: Pam (Larry) Stump, Upland; and Patsy (Dan) Bryant, Van Buren; two sisters: Nancy (Tom) Childs, Muncie; and Barbara (George) Brown, Cape Canaveral, Florida; eight grandchildren, Adam (Mary) Stump; Whitney (James) Blair; Dawn Stump; Peter Bryant; Emily (Matt) Bernaix; Elizabeth Bryant; Olivia Bryant; and Andrew Bryant; and two great grandchildren: Sophie and Anna Blair.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Jones-Smith Chapel of Armes- Hunt Funeral Home Cremation Services, 259 N. Main St., Upland, Indiana, where a visitation will be held from 3-7 pm on Monday, July 1, 2019. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Upland Community Church, 439 W. Berry Ave, Upland, with one hour visitation prior to the service. Burial will follow in Jefferson Cemetery, Upland.
