John R. Cook
November 14, 1930 - June 3, 2015

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day. John R. Cook, age 84 of Fairmount, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at Community Howard Regional Health. He was born in Muskegon, Mich. on November, 14, 1930 to the late Lloyd and Freeda Bookout Cook. John graduated in 1950 from Poling Town High School in Jay County. During the Korean War, he served in the United State Marine Corps. On April 12, 1953, John married the love of his life, Mary Maxine Isch, who preceded him in death on June 29, 2007. He worked in the Tool and Die Department at General Motors in Marion for thirty-five years, retiring in 1991. Since the early 1990s, John has been a member of Brookhaven Wesleyan Church. He was also a member of a small Wednesday night Bible study group that was always very supportive. John was a very active member of the Fairmount Lions Club. He was an avid golfer and bowler, having been a member of Arbor Trace Gold Club and traveling a lot to participate in bowling tournaments. He was also a enthusiastic supporter of Madison-Grant Athletics attending many competitions across the spectrum of sports. John had the gifts of the fruit of the spirit, always displaying kindness, gentleness, and patience.

John is survived by his three children;

Grandchildren: Shelly Stone, Ft. Wayne, IN, Matt Cook, Lafayette, IN, Nathan (Andrea) Carter, Chicago, IL, Nick (Kendra) Carter, Indianapolis, Aaron (Hahna) Martin, Noblesville, IN and Emily Martin, Rossville, IN

Great-Grandchildren: William and Elizabeth Stone, Tony Cook, Lucy, Mary, Katy, and Elly Carter, Keziah, Sylas, and Sadie Carter.

Siblings: Woody (Carol) Cook, Gas City, IN, Donnie (Al) Kuhlman, Lawrence, KS and Phil (Dorothy) Cook, Redkey, IN and several nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by two sister, Rosanna Cook and Patsy Watts, two brothers Bobby Cook and Junior Cook, a grandaughter Natalie Carter, and special friend Martha Stevens.

Arrangements are entrusted to Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana where the family will receive friends on Sunday, June 7, 2015 from 2-6 PM and one hour prior to the funeral service at Brookhaven Wesleyan Church..

Funeral Service is Monday, June 8, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Brookhaven Wesleyan Church, 2960 E. 38th Street, Marion, IN 46953 with Pastor Bob Van Cise and Pastor Joel Gearhart officiating. Burial and committal service will take place immediately following at Park Cemetery with military rites.

Memorial contributions may be made to Brookhaven Wesleyan Church in care of the funeral home.
