Jean Crockatt Selby died at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie on August 20, 2011 at the age of 93.
Jean was born in Yakima, Washington on August 10, 1918 to Peter Campbell and Georgine (Pitcher) Crockatt.She grew up in Yakima and attended Yakima Junior College and the University of Washington in Seattle.While working as a civilian secretary in an office of the U.S. Navy in Seattle during World War II, she met Victor A. Selby, Jr. of Fairmount, who was serving in Seattle as a Lt. Commander in the Navy.They were married in Cleveland, Ohio in 1944.After the war, they returned to Fairmount, and Mr. Selby returned to the Citizens State Bank (now the Citizens Exchange Bank).Mr. Selby passed away in 1991.
Mrs. Selby loved books and music, played the piano, and sang in the choir at the Fairmount Friends Church, of which she was a member.She was also a member of the Lyric Club of Marion.Mrs. Selby served for many years as a Red Cross volunteer at the Marion Veterans Administration Hospital and received several awards for her service to the VA.Mrs. Selby and her husband shared a love of travel.
Survivors include three children:Tim (Nancy) Selby, Jonesboro and Sheboygan, Wisconsin; John Selby, Jonesboro; and Anne (Michael Miller) Selby, Eugene, Oregon.Mrs. Selby is survived by five grandchildren:Peter (Paige) Selby, San Clemente, California; David (Margaret) Selby, London, UK; Amaranta Selby, San Alfonso, Chile; Luther Selby, Harlingen, Texas; and Gabriel Selby, Indianapolis.She is also survived by six great-grandchildren.Her two brothers, William (Ruth) Crockett, Salt Lake City, Utah and Jack Crockett, Indio, California, also survive.
A private family service will be held at the interment at Park Cemetery in Fairmount, Indiana.
Arrangements are being handled by Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, 415 S. Main St., Fairmount, IN.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Playacres Park tree fund, c/o Town of Fairmount, Indiana.
