Robert A. West, age 79, of Fairmount, IN, died Friday, August 13, 2010, at Marion General Hospital after an illness of serveral months.
He was born September 27, 1930 in Parma, Ohio, to the late Andrew C. and Ruby J. (Kerr) West. He was married to Phyllis P. Dennison West on May 23, 1959, after which they moved to Marion, Indiana, where he helped in the opening of Hankins Container Corp. He resided in Fairmount since 1971. He retired from Dana Corporation in 1997. He served in the US Navy Reserves and the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Post 313 in Fairmount. He loved flying his ultralight plane around Grant and neighboring counties.
He is survived by his wife, Two Daughters: Vickie Jean West, and Tina Ann Harris both of Fairmount, IN Two Sons: William Douglas West, Michigan City, IN and Mark Andrew West, Fairmount, IN 6 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister Ann Lenore Vickroy, and a brother, Clifford Andrew West.
Arrangements are being handled by Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, 415 S. Main St., Fairmount, IN where the family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, August 17, 2010. Interment will be in Park Cemetery, Fairmount, IN at 10:00 AM Wednesday August 18, 2010 with Pastor Leo Moore officiating.
