Wilma N. Lucas

Wilma N. Lucas, 91, of Jonesboro, IN, passed away Sunday morning January 10, 2010 at Colonial Oaks Healthcare Center, Marion, Indiana after a long illness. She was born in Muncie, IN
on April 14, 1918 to August and Mable (Worthen) Haas. She was the oldest in a family of five daughters, all of whom have pre-deceased her.

Wilma was a Homemaker and worked as a nurses aide at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN prior to her marriage. Her passion in later life was genealogy. She contributed vast amounts of research to both the Haas and Lucas lineages.

Wilma was a woman of quiet strength, an exemplary mother and wife who demonstrated a patience and understanding of her family and those whose paths crossed hers. She was a member of the Wednesday Evening Study Club the United Methodist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She embraced the digital age and was online almost daily for the past 16 years. Reading was also one of her passions. A book was never far from her chair throughout her life.

Wilma served on the Jonesboro Library Board, Jonesboro Geneaology Club and as a boys and girls scout leader. She enjoyed sewing and knitting.

She was the daughter of the late August Haas and the late Mable (Worthen) Haas. She was born in Muncie, Indiana on April 14, 1918. She graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1936 and attended Business School.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, John Edward Lucas, currently residing at Colonial Oaks in Marion. The were married in New Castle, IN on March 24, 1939.

John Michael (Bette) Lucas, Bloomington, IN

Arrangements are being handled by Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, 415 S. Main St., Fairmount, IN Funeral service is Thursday at 10 AM at the funeral home with the Rev. Kay Patton officiating. Interment will be at Elmridge Cemetery, Muncie, IN
Friends may call the funeral home on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 from 4-8 PM.


Memorial contributions may be made to the Mill Township Well Food Pantry in care of the funeral home
