Matthews: Ralph E. Burns, 92, passed away at the University Nursing Center, Upland, Monday at 5:45 p.m. He was born in Kirklin in Clinton County the son of the late Edwin and Eliza (Reed) Burns. He graduated from Matthews High School in 1933. He married Juanita (Moore) in 1945 in Walton, Indiana. Mr. Burns retired in 1974 after 40 years with Indiana Bell Telephone Company. He had been a Matthews resident since 1926. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, and a charter member of the First Community Church. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Juanita; a son, Joe Burns, Gaston; two grandsons, Adam (Dana)and Ed; several nieces and nephews. Three sisters preceded him in death, Irene Burns, Dorothy Butler, and Gladys Reeve. Service: 11:00 a.m. Thursday. January 29, 2009 Jones-Smith Funeral Home 259 N.
