Anna "Lucile" Slain
December 7, 1912 - October 15, 2008

Matthews: Anna "Lucile" Slain, 95, passed away at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday at Miller's Merry Manor, Hartford City. She was born near Matthews the daughter of the late J. Harry and Ethel (Urbin) Patterson. She married Forrest Slain in 1935. He preceded her in death July 11, 1981. Mrs. Slain was a 1930 graduate of Matthews High School, a 1934 graduate of Indiana University, and attended Ball State University. She returned to her graduating high school to teach. She taught 22 years at Jefferson Township High School and 13 years at Mississinewa Schools. She taught English, Latin, and Physical Education. She had been a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church since 1924. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years, Kappa Delta National Sorority, American Business Women Assoc., Indiana State Teachers Assoc., Grant County Retired Teachers Assoc., and Warner Gear Sympathy Club. Survivors include a son, Larry (Susie) Slain, Albion; a sister-in-law, Berneda Patterson; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Slain; grandchildren, Jeff, Jim, Jill, Kristy; and 10 great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son, Gerry Slain: sisters, Mary Grimes, Dora Mae Patterson; and a brother, Delmar. She was a lovely lady and we really enjoyed visiting with her at CrownPointe, my Mother Faith Combs who lived there until her death was also very fond of her. I think Bonnie will remember us.
