Upland: Russell L. Mount, 89, was called to Heaven Saturday, at 11:20 at Twin City Health Care, Gas City. Born April 25, 1918 in Marion , he was the son of the late Josh and Lumisha (Hasty) Mount. He graduated in 1938 from Cowan High School, Delaware County. He married Betty (Allen) on November 8, 1943. He retired from Warner Gear, Muncie in 1977 after 30 years in production. He was a member of the Hartford City Church of the Nazarene for 59 years. Russell was very active in tractor pulling. He began his pulling career in the late 1930's pulling farm stock classes. He then moved to pulling garden tractors. In 1961 he was inducted into the Indiana Tractor Pullers Association Hall of Fame. He was the Indiana Garden Tractor Pullers Association President in 1977. From there he moved on to Mini Hot Rod Pulling. He was named the Mini Tractor Puller of the Year in 1981. In 1985 Russell was awarded the Lyle Bishman Award. This is the most prestigious award given by the National Tractor Pullers Association in appreciation for a lifetime of service to the sport. He was inducted into the (NTPA) National Tractor Pullers Association Hall of Fame in 1998. Survivors in addition to his loving wife, Betty, Upland; include his daughter, Judy (Mount) Sower, Upland; granddaughter, Jennifer (Stan) Ervin, Warren; grandsons, Jeff Sower, Upland, Steve Mount, Jonesboro, Charles Mount, Marion; sister Martha Piner, Selma; brother, Irvin Mount, Sweetser; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Mount; brothers, Harold, Charles, Josh (Jr.) and Bob; sisters, Marie and Bonnie. Memorials may be made to the Hartford City Church of the Nazarene, 1400 W.
