Teresa Jo Smith

Upland: Teresa J. Smith, 48, 259 N. Main St., Upland, died at 4:44 p.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2000, at her residence. She was born on February 17, 1952, in Crawfordsville, to Mr. and Mrs. David L. (Jane E. Taylor) Todd. Her father survives, residing in Upland. Her mother preceded her in death. Mrs. Smith was a 1970 graduate of Crawfordsville High School and a 1974 graduate of the Indiana University School of Nursing, Indianapolis. On June 13, 1980 she married Dennis R. Smith at West Morris Street Free Methodist Church, Indianapolis. She continued her education, earning a Masters of Science degree in nursing from Indiana University, Indianapolis. Mrs. Smith was co-owner of the Jones-Smith Funeral Home, Upland. She had served as director of the Health Center at Taylor University, Upland, from 1994 to 2000. Mrs. Smith also had taught nursing at Indiana Wesleyan University, Marion, from 1990 to 1994, and at Indiana University School of Nursing, Indianapolis, and had worked as staff nurse at Hendricks Community Hospital, Danville, Noblesville Hospital, and Riley Hospital for Children, Indianapolis. She was a member of the Upland Community Church, the Upland Chamber of Commerce and Gods Happy Helpers Clown Ministry, Van Buren. Mrs. Smith had served as secretary of the Eastbrook Band Boosters. She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honorary Society of Nursing. Mrs. Smith had also served as a volunteer counselor with the Crisis Pregnancy Center, Indianapolis. She found joy in serving others. Survivors in addition to her father, include her husband of 20 years, Dennis R. Smith, Upland; two sons, Aaron T. Smith, Upland, and Kyle T. Smith, Upland; a daughter, Renee C. Smith, Upland; her mother-in-law, Dorothy M. Smith, Lebanon; two aunts, Mrs. Bill (Betty) Mangus, Crawfordsville, and Mrs. Lloyd (Isabelle) Cash, Crawfordsville.
