Chester Paul Mills

Deacon Chester Paul Mills, of Taunton and formerly of Middleboro, died Monday, February 18 in Tufts Medical Center, Boston, following a lengthy illness, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of the late Joan Marie (Loveday) Mills for 51 years. He was born 79 years ago in North Baltimore, Ohio, the son of the late Paul E.B. and Chelsie M. (Church) Mills. He was educated in North Baltimore and was a graduate of Johnson and Wales College in Providence, R.I. Mr. Mills also attended St. Johns Seminary in Brighton, Ma., and was ordained a Permanent Deacon at Holy Cross Cathedral, Boston, in 1976. Prior to his retirement, he served as Deacon at St. Josephs Church in Kingston, and previously served at Sacred Heart Church in Middleboro. He was formerly employed as an administrator for Aetna Life and Casualty in Brockton for 10 years. Mr. Mills served in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Taiwan during the Korean War. He continued to serve in the Air Force throughout the 1950s and 1960s, and was stationed in Thailand during the Vietnam War. He received his Honorable Discharge in 1972, having attained the rank of Tech Sergeant. He enjoyed trains and model trains, camping and hiking. He was a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Parish in Taunton. He leaves: 9 sons: Corey P. Mills of Middleboro, Thomas X. Mills and his wife, Ann Marie of Taunton, Steven A. Mills and his wife, Carole of Taunton, Randal J. Mills of Carver, David E. Mills of Taunton, Patrick G. Mills of Middleboro, Michael R.D. Mills of Middleboro, John G. Mills and his wife, Stacy of E.Taunton, and Joseph A. Mills and his wife, Amy of So.Middleboro; 6 daughters: Deborah L. Baker and her husband, Ross of Halifax, Joy M. Verhaegen and her husband, Stephen of Middleboro, Terese A. Mills Goranson and her husband, Sean of Taunton, Michelle P. Mills of Carver, Mary M. Silva and her husband, Robert of Carver, and Katherine A. Feeney and her husband, Derek of Taunton; 1 brother: Sean E. Mills of No.Baltimore, Ohio; 3 sisters: Dixie S. Parsons, Sheila I. Stemen and her husband, Donald, and Rosemary E. Daniels, all of No.Baltimore, Ohio; 40 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Deacon Mills was also the father of the late Gregory P. Mills, and the brother of the late Dale Mills, Danny Mills, Larry Mills, Robert Mills, and Betty Carles. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Jude the Apostle Church, 249 Whittenton Street, Taunton, on Friday, February 22 at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held in St. Jude the Apostle Church on Thursday, February 21, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 141 Washington St., Taunton, Ma., 02780. Arrangements are under the direction of The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home of Taunton.
