In loving memory of

ROBERT JOSEPH MOHAR
May 19, 1932 - July 22, 2020

Robert J. Mohar, 88 of Marquette, passed away Wednesday evening, July 22, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Bob, the oldest of six children, was born on May 19, 1932 in Marquette, to the late Joseph and Mary (Laurich) Mohar. He attended grade school at the former Bancroft School in Marquette and later graduated from Bishop Baraga High School in 1949. He proudly served in the U. S. Navy as a Fire Control Technician 2nd Class from 1949-1953 aboard a submarine tender as well as aboard the fleet oiler USS Caliente AO-53 throughout the Korean Conflict.

After the Navy, Bob attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering where he received an Associates Degree in Radio-Television Technology in 1956. He then worked in electronics repair in Cincinnati until returning to Marquette to work as an electronics repair man for more than 50 years--first with Northland Appliance and then Mohar's TV Service.

On June 24th, 1967, Bob married Barbara Spehar of Big Bay at St. Christopher Catholic Church, and together they enjoyed 53 years of marriage, raising their five children, and later enjoying time with their six grandchildren. Bob and Barb have been faithful members of St. Louis the King Catholic Church in Harvey.

Bob loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed helping his children and others in many ways, sharing his wealth of technical, electrical, and mechanical knowledge. Bob liked feeding the birds, cleverly outwitting the squirrels, and especially feeding his chipmunk visitors who kept him company while he turned countless pallets into kindling and repurposed household items into useful tools. Bob loved Polka music and relaxed nightly watching his favorite polka programs on television.

Survivors include his wife Barbara; five children, Mary (James) Styers of Choctaw, OK, Robert C. (Sue) Mohar of DePere, WI, Steven Mohar of Newberry, MI, Anne (Andy) Schumer of Chassell, MI, and Joseph (Kate Hosking) Mohar of Marquette; six grandchildren, Amanda Styers, James (Lauren) Styers, Jr., Sarah Styers, Robert Styers, Claire Mohar, and Jacob Mohar; three siblings, Carol Mohar, Sheilah Denne, and Louis Mohar; also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death besides his parents were two siblings, Rose Gentz and Connie Favreau.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 29th at 12 noon at St. Louis the King Catholic Church with the Rev. Glenn Theoret officiating. The Mohar family will greet relatives and friends beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the Mass in the church. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
